Hi,
I have 8 years of experience working with both national and international NGOs, particularly in humanitarian assistance, across various projects and countries. When I left Somalia in 2019, around the time COVID-19 began, I have not been able to secure a new position since. I have Bachelor's in developmental studies, and Higher Diploma in Community development and Social work.
I'm not yet 40 years old, and I've attended several interviews and revamped my CV multiple times, but I still haven’t been successful in getting a job.

What could be the problem?

The humanitarian sector has really been affected due to funding cuts. Getting a job there currently is tricky. You need to diversify your search into... other areas . Hopefully and opportunity will come. Don't give up  more

  • I am facing similar experience, I am vast in Humanitarian Sector, with Reginal and country certification and over 25yeaars of experience. But I am... out of Job till date. I pray things work out in our favour.  more

  • Continue trying. jobs are note asy to get.

  • Expand your job search beyond non-profit and NGO organizations. The trend now with Trump in office is to put NGOs out of business. Trump does not ... like NGOs and many people in Washington DC are out of work and will be competing with you for jobs. Think about how you can transfer your skills to the private sector. more

  • So if thinking truly is our only problem. Or solution. Core issue. If I become what I think about most of the time, my focus seems to hold all the... answers. So focus? more

  • You are not alone. The humanitarian and development sectors, especially under NGOs world, is realistically turbulent. Thousands, if not millions, are... at home due to the Trump effect. The job market there has significantly shrunk, rendering the few available job openings extremely competitive. Now, experience alone isn't a guarantee for securing for you a job! Apart from the many highly experienced applicants competing for the few openings, every CEO and hiring officer obviously have 'their own people' among them, whom they'll definitely give priority. It's a new reality that calls for new adaptation strategies. Let's think outside the box and start our own things. It's the only prudent way to go. more

  • Keep applying , there is definitely a job specifically for you. Sometimes we may apply and not get a job , because it wasn't might for you. The job... for you will come with no stress , sometimes not even your CV with be required. Just by you orally saying you have a BA and a Dip will be enough. Congratulations in advance.

  • Your eight years in humanitarian work across regions is a strong foundation. It’s understandable that post-COVID shifts—especially in the NGO... sector—created career turbulence. Given your credentials and interview efforts, the challenge may lie in positioning your profile within a changed job market.
    A few thoughts:
    • Customize applications: Highlight the most relevant experience for each role. Specificity matters.
    • Bridge gaps: Short-term consultancies, online certificates, or even visible volunteer work can strengthen your current relevance.
    • Tap your network: Connections often lead to opportunities. Reconnect with colleagues, join webinars, or explore regional career groups.
    • Seek feedback: Post-interview insights can uncover blind spots and refine your approach.
Your dedication is clear. Stay strategic—sometimes progress comes from recalibrating, not just persisting—but don’t give up!
