Hi! Has anyone had this happen before? I didn’t get a job as an accountant/cashier at a big company because they said I’m not trustworthy.
It’s true I’ve had a few small fines for bad parking, smoking in a public place and my neighbors complained once about loud music when I was celebrating my birthday.
But can they really refuse to hire me for stuff like that? And how did they even find out? I thought only the police could have that information. Should I sue the police for sharing my private information?

  • You made some bad choices and the events are not serious for you but for employers in the finance industry raises ethics questions. But this is only... one job so move on because you need to spend time on the positions that are open, not the doors that are closed. Qnce you have a police record of any type, it is public record. Move on, because you are wasting time. The bills keep coming no matter what. more

  • You *Can’t sue the police (typo)

  • You can sue the police I doubt the company did such an extensive background check for a cashier position but all of those things you mentioned are... public record and can technically be accessed by anyone very easily. What more than likely happened is either someone who knows you works there and said you weren’t trustworthy or someone there heard something somewhere about you. Either way yes a company can refuse to hire you for any reason they’d like as long as it’s not something like because you’re a woman or because of your sexuality or your race or age. Other than those things they can use whatever reasons they like to hire or not hire someone  more
