JOB OVERVIEW

The Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) is seeking a dynamic and experienced visionary and compassionate leader with a proven track record of driving impact and mobilizing resources with a passion for transforming the lives of people with... disabilities. As the most senior manager, the CEO will be the public face of APDK, responsible for strategic leadership, operational excellence, and ensuring our mission to empower people with disabilities is at the heart of everything we do.

The CEO is the primary link between the Board of Directors and the organization's daily operations. This is a multi-faceted role that requires a strategic thinker, a skilled fundraiser, and a hands-on manager. You will be responsible for:


Strategic Leadership: Serving as a key advisor to the Board of Directors, formulating policies, and translating our vision into actionable plans and programs.
Operational Management: Through the departmental heads, you will oversee all aspects of the organization, including administration, programs, finance, human resources, and facilities. You will ensure the prudent management of resources and adherence to all legal and regulatory guidelines.
Fundraising & Resource Mobilization: Leading our fundraising efforts, including identifying and cultivating relationships with donors, development partners, and philanthropic stakeholders. You will be responsible for setting and achieving annual income goals to ensure the financial sustainability of APDK.
Public Relations & Advocacy: Acting as the primary external representative of APDK, maintaining a strong and positive public image. You will engage with government representatives, the media, and the wider community to advocate for the rights and welfare of people with disabilities.
Team Leadership: Inspiring and managing a senior leadership team and staff across the national office and our branch network. You will foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and compassion.
Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with other NGOs, businesses, and government entities. 
Ensuring the organization's mission and values are consistently upheld.


Required Qualifications & Experience:


A Master’s degree in Business Management, Strategic Management, Public Administration, Finance, or a related field. A technical degree in a relevant industry is highly desirable.
A minimum of 5-10 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in a Director or Vice President role.
Vast experience in fundraising, including securing and managing grants, donations, and major gifts.
Proven proficiency in financial management, budgeting, and fiscal oversight.
Direct experience working with or for people with disabilities is highly desirable.
Exceptional communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
A proven ability to build and maintain a spotless personal reputation and act as a representative of the organization at all times.

NATIONAL HEAD OF PROGRAMS

Location:                       APDK National Office, Nairobi, Kenya 

Reports To:                  Chief Executive Officer

The holder of this position will work with the CEO in National Coordination of APDK countrywide programs in partnership with Ministry of Health in both National and County government, International and local donors,other government agencies... and partners, in line with policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:


Planning & Strategy: Develop and propose short- and long-term strategic plans and budgets, and work with branch coordinators to create annual work plans
Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely reports for the CEO and donors, analysing program data with the M&E office to support decision-making
Supervision & Support: Provide on-the-ground support to branch staff through regular field visits, ensuring effective program implementation and adherence to organizational policies
Networking & Fundraising: Maintain strong relationships with existing and potential donors, as well as other stakeholders, to secure continued funding and promote APDK's services


Qualifications:


A Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, or related field. A post-graduate diploma in Rehabilitation Services is a plus.
At least 5 years of experience in a similar position, preferably within an NGO.
Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
A proven track record of integrity, business acumen, and the ability to work under pressure.
Great written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated in proposal writing and donor engagement
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Track record of resource mobilisation, donor and grants management and a strong business acumen

Selection and Recruitment – Directing and managing the recruitment and selection process, and training of line managers in interviewing and assessment procedures.
Reporting and management of human resources metrics – produce reports on key metrics, including remuneration and benefits, absenteeism and turnover.
Performance management – deliver performance management programs that drive a high performance culture within the organization
Learning and development – implement and monitor effectiveness of training programs.
Advise the organization to professionally and legally deal with possible redundancies, union matters and retirement issues.
Undertake regular reviews of HR systems, policies and procedures to ensure conformity with best practices.
Monitor, measure and report on HR issues and opportunities.
Demonstrate commitment to health, safety and environmental policies and procedures, including development and training of staff in these areas.
