Key Responsibilities of a IMAM Provider 

Program Implementation: IMAM providers at LABDI are involved in the practical aspects of implementing IMAM programs, which includes:


Treating children with severe acute malnutrition, often through outpatient therapeutic care programs. 
Providing supplementary feeding for children with moderate acute malnutrition. 
Mobilizing communities to participate in the program and ensuring community ownership. 
Working with health facilities and community health workers to deliver care. 
Participate in planning and undertaking health surveys, rapid assessments, as well as in the monitoring and evaluation of the health program activities. 
Responsible for providing inputs and data for monthly health activities' reports in timely manner. 
Provide  critical healthcare to people who are in emergency situations.
Responding to catastrophic events such as natural disasters disease outbreak, the will nurses apply all expertise in providing holistic care under the most challenging conditions.

Train-the-Trainer model to promote empowerment & sustainability. 
Carry out health education activities and disseminate information to the public to prevent panic.

Supervising and mentoring staff to ensure quality of care.

Supported by the Nutrition Manager, conduct in-depth analysis of current interventions under nutrition and recommend corrective actions to guide and inform programme strategies across Yobe and Borno State.
Implement Nutrition activities that are backed by social and behavioural evidence and strong engagement and participation mechanisms in both development and humanitarian contexts.
Coordinate with stakeholders and partners for the implementation of community engagement 
Work with nutrition stakeholders to build consensus on a harmonized national behavior change communication strategy, plans and materials.
Provide technical guidance and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners participate in discussions with national and sub-national stakeholders to promote nutrition and development issues, especially in the areas of behavior change communication.

Warehousing and Inventory Management 


Supervise loading and offloading of delivery and distribution trucks.

Monitor Drivers’ behavior and ensure high level of customer service.

Ensure the information on the physical case files is synchronized with the CPIMS+
Work closely with the Child Protection assistant to prepare the monthly 5Ws.

Two (2) years of progressive professional work experience in a similar position with non-governmental organizations – at least one of these must be in humanitarian emergency work, preferably in child health, Nutrition programmes.
Expertise in developing, planning and implementing M&E systems, procedures and tools.
Experience in strategic planning and performance management, including indicator selection, target setting, reporting, database management, and developing M&E and performance monitoring plans.
Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact) and data collection and analysis methodologies in the humanitarian aid/development sector.
Extensive experience in data collection and analysis Knowledge of information management software and tools(Excel, Power BI, SPSS, Arc GIS and other relevant software (statistics, investigation management and mapping).
Experience in planning and managing surveys, developing and refining data collection tools, and with data quality assessments and oversight.
Knowledge of the major evaluation methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, and impact using OECD framework) and data collection and analysis methodologies.
Awareness and knowledge of ethical issues related to M&E: do no harm and sensitivity to gender and diversity.

PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Under the general guidance of the Nutrition Manager the Nutrition Officer will support the development and preparation of the Strategy and Costed Plan aimed to contribute to enhancing dietary diversity, preventing common childhood illnesses and improving MIYCN, diets, services and care practices. The position will be responsible for initiating, implementing,... monitoring, evaluating, and reporting the progress of key deliverables of the nutrition programme within Nangere LGA Of Yobe State programme. The Nutrition Officer will provide technical guidance throughout the programming processes to facilitate the administration and achievement of concrete and sustainable results in maternal, infant and child nutrition programmes/ projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Summary of Key Functions/accountabilities:


Summarize Nutrition data, conduct analysis and prepare reports to support programme reviews and informative decision-making. 
Improvements to field staff/monitoring processes and procedures for efficient implementation of Nutrition programmers. 
Build team capacity in Nutrition through effective guidance, coaching, training, and accountability. 
Assist in developing and expanding malnutrition prevention activities through promotion of IYCF and awareness raising in targeted areas. 
Strengthen eternal stakeholder engagement including district local governments to strengthen nutrition programming. 
Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure UNICEF /LABDI can quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis. 
Participate in national level nutrition technical working group discussions as may be required by the Project/Sector Manager. 
Any other duties as may be required.


 Technical and operational support to programme implementation


Supported by the Nutrition Manager, conduct in-depth analysis of current interventions under nutrition and recommend corrective actions to guide and inform programme strategies across Yobe State.
Implement Nutrition activities that are backed by social and behavioural evidence and strong engagement and participation mechanisms in both development and humanitarian contexts.
Coordinate with stakeholders and partners for the implementation of community engagement 
Work with nutrition stakeholders to build consensus on a harmonized national behavior change communication strategy, plans and materials.
Provide technical guidance and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners participate in discussions with national and sub-national stakeholders to promote nutrition and development issues, especially in the areas of behavior change communication.


Networking and partnership-building


Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with nutrition sector government counterparts and national stakeholders through active sharing of information and knowledge.
Represent LABDI in external meetings as appropriate.
Facilitate programme implementation and build the capacity of stakeholders to achieve programme goals on maternal and child rights as well as social justice and equity.

Apply and introduce innovative approaches and good practices to build the capacity of LABDI Staff and stakeholders, and to support the implementation and delivery of normative change.

Language Requirements: Fluency in English. Knowledge of local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.

ROLE PURPOSE: 

A Nutrition Assistant at LABDI typically supports the planning, implementation, and monitoring of nutrition programs, focusing on improving the health and well-being of women and children, particularly in developing countries. Responsibilities include analyzing data, providing technical support, and contributing to reports and communication materials. 

SCOPE OF... ROLE:

Reports to: This position reports up through the Life At Best Development Initiative structure, to the Nutrition Officer as the technical lead based in Nangere Yobe State. 

 JOB DISCRIPTION


Advocacy visit / awareness creation and engaging community stakeholders on the Nutrition project activities for community acceptance and participation.
Plan and organize nutrition activities at designated MAM sites in liaison with the nutrition officer and other program staff.
Support field level technical assessments and plan and organize LABDI community led supplementary program in project location site in liaison with the Nutrition Officer/Manager.
Conduct extensive routine integrated management of acute malnutrition (IMAM) Screening using mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) tape, bilateral pitting edema detection, operating under the SOPs of the CMAM component and principles.
Supporting targeting of beneficiaries; formation and establishment of Mother Care groups; selection of community volunteers and members of community structures.
Work closely with care group promoters and lead mothers to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed and appropriate referrals take place to and from the community to MAM sites.
Ensure effective referrals of the identified malnourished children to the appropriate program (OTP, SC, Tom Brown) based on the level of malnutrition identified.
Engage in the IYCF counselling and IYCF message sessions during OTP days and ensure names of caregivers are recorded in the IYCF counselling register.
Educate lactating/breastfeeding mothers on maternal infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) and effective breastfeeding positions (Cradle, Cross-cradle, side lying and under-arm etc.) for good mother – child bonding during breastfeeding.
Through liaison with the community Mobilizer’s provide effective follow up of all beneficiaries: particularly tracing of children who are absent from the program, sick children and children with social problems... etc.
Oversee the distribution of complementary food recipe in preparation for complementary food demonstration activities.
Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission and discharge whenever necessary at the MAM sites.
Follow-up and ensure the field team interacts with the beneficiaries and community leaders properly.
Screen and refer Moderate acute malnutrition cases to the Tom Brown TSFP activity for 8 weeks.
Extensive follow up on OTP referred care givers to ensure the daily ration of ready to use therapeutic food (RUTF) is given only to the OTP referred / malnourished Child.
Participate in the hygiene promotion education to care givers and children at community and household level.
Organize and oversee the weekly / monthly MIYCN support group activities and ensure attendance data are well recorded for accountability.
Weekly and monthly reports writing on the nutrition project activities. 
Conduct regular technical monitoring of nutrition activities and document findings to inform improvements in 
Attend refresher training on Safeguarding and commit to setting at least one Safeguarding goal each year.
