We need more teachers like you who challenge the status quo and demand your students to grow and develop their writing voices uniquely. You say... someone complained? What if you did an numinous survey asking your students how they feel, and what they would prefer? If the majority prefer to be ale to reference things online, maybe you can meet them where they stand and create assignments which have them find answers online, and then show how those answers are either wrong, or show how they can improve on what they find using their own research and voice? Problem is, so many students now are using AI to do the lazy research for them that a teacher friend of mine (who is also a very successful author) had his students find answers using AI, then had them write assignments to prove why the AI findings were either weak or flat out wrong. I thought it was a great way to have the students put their money where their mouths were and see the better results for themselves. more
