Educating primary and secondary domestic assault victims about the dynamics of domestic violence, available resources and referral options; Training service volunteers to provide expanded victim support, while simultaneously facilitating victim support groups to promote healing and advocating on behalf of victims filing injunctions against their abusers; education on prevention of alcohol and drug addiction in youth; organizing and conducting group meetings and conversations, monitoring behaviors and conditions.
  • 1. My advocacy efforts resulted in increased investment in mental health in the county as evidenced by
  •  Deployment of a full-time mental health doctor (Psychiatric) and counselling psychologist at Isiolo County Referral hospital.
  •  Introduction of special days for mental health services in all sub-county hospitals in Isiolo where at least one day per week is dedicated to provision of mental health services.

  • Sanitation Village Administration; coordinating of the activities of the Sanitation village, a model Centre of for marketing all project products as well as making monthly financial reconciliation and stock taking.

  • Health Communication and Marketing; Creating demand & uptake of improved sanitation in target sub counties and sustained BCC campaigns and distribution of WASH hygiene kits to mothers.
  • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting; tracking the functionality of oral-rehydration therapy corners in health facilities.
  • ACHIEVEMENTS
  • 1. I conducted sensitization sessions to organized groups and community members especially in areas where they had poor sanitation facilities and needed to move up the sanitation ladder. I managed to recruit 6 groups to uptake Sanitation Marketing Business within 3 months. I further encouraged the groups to form village savings and loans associations (VSLA), the money accrued by individual members from the VSLAs further helped them set up income generating activities like bee keeping, sweet potato farming and cereals business. This ensured that the groups were more resilient and had sustained livelihoods.
  • 2. After providing technical assistance in implementation and roll-out of Community Led Total Sanitation protocol in Nyamira County, 180 villages were able to be declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) after thorough verification and were issued with certificates in a 1-year span. This greatly resulted to an 80% decrease in number of diarrheal diseases reported by the Ministry of Health in the county as a result of our efforts.
