  • The major duty for this position was to assist the settlement commandant in the management of the settlement, handle general protection cases ranging from child protection, sexual gender-based violence, and other cases, determine refugee status at the settlement level, and share refugee status determination (RSD) note with refugee eligibility committee (REC) for determination of refugee status under individual recognition, coordinate issuance of birth certificates to refugee children born in Uganda, Managing budget lines under protection, coordination of different stakeholders in the settlement, monitoring of the various partner activities to ensure services are provided in line with government standards and operating procedures, prepare situational, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports, focal point for drafting budgets for protection activities

  • Organized case management meetings to discuss complex protection cases and offer technical guidance to field protection partners in following up on cases and needs of persons of concern both in child protection and gender-based violence to the satisfaction of child protection and GBV partners in line with the best interest and survivor-centered approach.
  • Coordinated with protection colleagues from other settlements in relocating refugees with high protection risks and migrating their records from Rhino camps to other settlements within Uganda in line with standard operating procedures to provide safety and protection to their lives as a key human right

  • Conducted border monitoring missions to the surrounding borders in Arua operation to ensure non-refoulment of asylum seekers, observation of international protection protocols by the border officials, and check security situation at the borders and across countries informing programming of likelihoods of emergencies for better planning purposes as well as sensitizing border officials on obligations stated in article 33 of 1951 convention and its protocol of 1967 on non-refoulment.
  • Supported community-based protection through involvement in accountability to affected populations especially through effective feedback and referrals, through involvement in an integrated village meeting, being present at protection help desks in the zones, engagement with community structures including refugee leaders, working with various partner zonal focal points, and joint opening of suggestion boxes and analysis of issues as well as providing feedback to communities or individuals.
