  • As a member of the United States President Malaria Initiative for States (PMI-S) regional team, I play key roles in conceptualization, development, coordination, implementation, and reporting of the project’s strategies in line with the project’s objectives in four States (Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ebonyi, and Oyo) which cuts across developing, coordinating, implementing, and reporting strategies to improve quality of and access to comprehensive malaria case management include iCCM; improve data quality, interpretation, and use; improve drug-based prevention and treatment approaches with focus on intermittent preventive therapy in pregnancy (IPTp); and Strengthen health systems and improve the state malaria elimination program (SMEP) capacity on program management.
  • Achievements
  • a. Supported and coordinated the project team in the four states to develop detailed implementation plans, work plan narratives, and budgets that guides the project’s implementation.
  • b. Supported the project teams in the four states to implement activities as per the approved work plan, this involved directly facilitating training sessions for health facility staff and state stakeholders on malaria case management, malaria in pregnancy, and Behavioral Economics prototypes for fever case management.
  • c. Supported the project teams in the four states in the development of high-quality consolidated task order quarterly and annual reports that meet donor requirements.
  • d. Supported the review of national level documents such as the case management training manuals, as well as supported the conceptualization and development of the project’s strategic documents such as concept notes for awarding grants under contract, the project’s gender strategy among others.
  • e. Coordinated the technical team in the development of 8 abstracts from project learnings which were submitted and accepted into the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) conference 2021.
  • f. As the gender focal point of the project, supported the conduct of gender assessment and subsequent development of gender strategy to ensure adequate gender mainstreaming in malaria activities implementation in the project states.

  • Responsibilities:
  • As the technical resource person and focal point for the project, I lead processes involved with stakeholders’ engagement, implementation of project’s activities, as well as reporting of project’s achievements during the reporting cycles. The key areas of support in the state include Coordinating and supporting the implementation of state-based activities on malaria prevention (including routine and mass LLIN distributions and IPTp); Coordinating programme activities to support malaria case management including reporting including capacity building of SMEP and SMOH staff members; Monitoring program implementation using the M&E framework to track project’s performance, identify bottlenecks and areas of successes, and develop remediation plans to mitigate challenges; and Collaborating with other partners in the state to leverage opportunities for resource mobilization and partnerships to actualize project’s objectives.
  • Achievements:
  • a. Organized and trained 460 health personnel in public health facilities in Kaduna state on the continuous use and distribution of LLIN.
  • b. Supported and organized the training of 779 health workers including doctors, nurses and other health staff on management of Malaria in pregnancy in Kaduna state.
  • c. Supported and organized the training of 1169 health workers on management of uncomplicated malaria in Kaduna state.
  • d. Supported the state in the training of 60 master trainers on severe malaria management.
  • e. Provided support to the SMEP in the development of its 2019 and 2020 annual operational plans.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to the state nutrition officer to develop annual operational plan that is incorporated into the state primary healthcare development agency strategic (SPHCDA) plan and support the SPHCDA to implement the nutrition-specific interventions around community management of severe acute malnutrition (CMAM); and improving infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices as well as providing technical support in the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation progress, identifying implementation bottlenecks, and developing mitigation plans to address challenges. My role also included collaborating with other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) as well as development partners to develop multi-sectoral work plans that addresses nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions as well as establishing partnerships with other implementing partners and stakeholders to jointly implement activities and reduce duplication of efforts.
  • Achievements:
  • a. Supported the development of IYCF Social Behaviour Change (SBC) operational plan in 3 northern states (Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Niger).
  • b. Supported the set-up of over 10 Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTPs) in 3 LGAs in Kaduna state to improve access of malnourished children to care.
  • c. Supported capacity building of over 30 health workers and 300 community volunteers on management of severe acute malnutrition that aided the early identification of malnourished children and institution of prompt treatment, thereby saving thousands of lives.
  • d. Conceptualized and initiated the process of integrating HIV testing services (HTS) into the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) program in Kaduna field office states to provide linkages across programs to increase case finding of both severely malnourished children and HIV positive children.

  • Under the USAID funded SHIPs for MARPs (Strengthening HIV Prevention Services for Most at Risk Populations) project, provide HIV testing and counselling services for most-at-risk population such as female sex workers (FSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), and people who inject drugs (PWIDS). I served as the coordinator of the one-stop-shop (OSS) providing technical and supervisory roles to the pharmacists, counselling nurse, medical laboratory scientist, and the medical records officer working in the OSS. This includes the coordination of outreaches to increase case finding and enrolment of positive clients.
  • Achievements:
  • a. Provided HIV testing and counselling services for over 10,000 most-at-risk populations.
  • b. Managed over 7000 HIV infected most-at-risk populations on ART in the one-stop-shop.
  • c. Supported the Cross-rivers state government in developing the HIV strategic plan of action 2016-2020.

  • As the clinical specialist for the USAID funded Prevention Organisational Systems Aids Care and Treatment (ProACT) project, lead in the implementation of strategic HIV interventions for paediatric and general population who access services in supported public health facilities in Kebbi state. The interventions including HIV testing services, enrolment into care, follow up of clients enrolled in care, data management at the facilities, monitoring and evaluation of the program, as well as development of high-quality technical reports.
  • Achievements:
  • a. Supported 15 government secondary health facilities in providing ART services for HIV infected populations.
  • b. Provided technical support through regular supportive supervision for health facility staff in managing HIV infected people.
  • c. Collaborated with other NGOs to provide comprehensive support for HIV infected population.
  • d. Supported the state in initiating/piloting the HIV differentiated care model for infected population.

  • Team lead coordinating a team comprising HIV counsellor testers, medical laboratory scientist, pharmacist, data entry clerk, and town mobilisers to conduct HIV testing services as outreaches in communities of Eleme local government, Rivers state to improve HIV case identification and enrolment into care in a bid to reduce the HIV epidemic which is one of the goals of the USAID funded SIDHAS project

  • a. Provided HIV counselling and testing services through community ART for over 5000 people.
  • b. Commenced ART for over 1000 HIV infected individuals at the community level and linking them to supported health facilities for follow up.
  • c. Achieved >90% retention-in-care for people commenced on ART at the community level.
