  • Hello. On my first day at the new job I was given a company mobile phone. And I accidentally broke it the very next day. The screen needs to be replaced, maybe more. How can I tell my boss about...

The phone is the company's property. The IT division of the company and your boss need to be notified. Companies that distribute equipment will also... purchase an insurance plan to cover that equipment. Depending upon the nature of your business, the integrity of the company may be potentially compromised with changes in the equpiment / access to that IT equipment. Immediately notify your boss and the IT department. Do not risk compromising your new company by turning over the equipment to a 3rd party to "repair". It is foolish to consider replacing it on your own. Accidents happen. Over more than 20 yrs in business, I have had my phone stolen, temporarily misplaced, and/or lost during travel. IT immediately turned off the old phone, protected the company, and replaced or used the locator to find the phone. Depending on the size of the business and the company policy for their equipment you may be required to make some restitution or not. Check with the corporate policy.  more
