I have been unemployed for two years. I've been searcing for work the whole time and only got two interviews. Both interviews went badly. I have lost confidence in my self and skills. How can I best keep my mind sharp and improve job seeking results

  • Some great comments and ideas here! Keep yourself educated in your field. Take courses if you need to. Examine yourself and the interviews, and try... to understand why they went badly. There are interview courses you can take that will help as well. Always go in with a "can do" attitude, a smile, and knowledge about the company and position you are applying for. Be ready to discuss what you can bring to the job and company. I'm not sure what you are looking for, but if you have temp companies in your area, that is a great way to often get your foot in the door, and after a certain time, if you do well, will often get hired. Praying your next interview is for THEE job!

  • Two years without stable work can affect confidence, even for capable people. The fact that you kept applying and still showed up for interviews says... you have persistence — and that matters more than most people realize.

A practical way forward is to work on two things at the same time:

    rebuilding momentum and confidence
improving the job search system itself

Here’s a structure that usually helps people get unstuck:

Treat unemployment like a temporary training season, not “waiting time.”

Spend 1–2 hours daily learning or practicing something connected to your field.
    Use free platforms like:
    Coursera
    LinkedIn Learning
    freeCodeCamp
    Google Career Certificates
Read industry news or watch tutorials regularly.
Build small projects, volunteer work, or freelance samples to keep skills active.

Even one small completed project can help restore confidence.

    Improve interview performance

Bad interviews usually improve with repetition and preparation.

    Try this:

  • Wow. 2 years. Memories of Covid were still fresh back then. But opportunities and additional ways of building income were sprouting up all over as... well. Zoom became the new office! hahaha
It also became easier to get in rooms (like this) and surround yourself with positive, forward-thinking people nationwide. I found it more enjoyable and financially profitable to work for myself! Don't give up on yourself. Just surround yourself with folks who will believe in you, more than you believe in yourself. :-)

  • I have been there done that. I also lost my confidence @ one point. In retrospect it was completely silly, completely in my head. I do not know you... but would guess like most people you have some very good skills and character traits. Start with the fact that you took the initiative to reach out on this web site for ideas. Being proactive is a wonderful trait. Believe in yourself and find people who believe in you.  more

What should you look at in a profile?
Understand that the recruitment process is... not just one person making a decision — there is a team and different opinions. Most of them are outsiders and not directly linked to the job you’re looking for, so they will address general behavior and technical questions.
Make sure to put yourself in their shoes , not making yourself out to be the best, but asking: What does the organization need? What expectation of a candidate should I hire? What makes this candidate the best for them?
Know the job market is a competition , a shop where everyone wants to go. Treat it as a sugar market: everyone needs sugar, so it remains in short supply. Everyone is hungry who will go for it?
