My CEO complains about upward delegation, yet she wants to be consulted on any matter, including being copied on any email I write. If you dont consult her and act within your profession, she feels that you have bypassed. If you escalate the matter to her, she feels upward delegation. This is draining me...how do i handle such,i have sat with her before and explained that close supervision affects my work yet it hasnt stopped. Help please.

There is a difference between upward delegating, seeking guidance and informing. Informing is critical in creation of a positive and health work... environment. A CEO must be informed of all communication emanating from the organization. All communication with policy or operational effect must be brought to the attention of the leadership prior to dispatch. This way, the leadership is kept informed and creates room for seiving the message to confirm to company policy and operational philosophy or culture. Delighting upward on the other hand, borders insurbordination. You are literary passing your work to be done by your seniors. This is a direct breach of protocol. It should not be confused with communication and the verification requirement, which is a standard screening procedure. more

  • The CEO is entitled to receiving all correspondences. His/her role doesnt involve mistakes hence their request to have them into all your... communication. If you enjoy your job, be open minded and forego minor requests that drain you. Learn their way of working to simplify the way you operate.  more

  • The CEO is supposed to be on yop of all things and Knowing all that pertains to the organization. Communication is the blood line of the... organization.

If you do not comply with your CEO 8ts insurbodination.

Do you have a communication strategy or policy and what does it say regarding the current situation?

From my experience, once an employee leaves the organization most of the time he or she leaves with critical information. Therefore to avoid such occurrence its either you copy supervisor or use the organization emails and not your personal email to communicate organisation correspondence.

if all this is not possible, maybe you are a problem

  • That is what we call micromanagement, its toxic management style. You are not the problem she is the problem with so much insecurity it sucks. Just... be professional on how you handle work and start looking for another position elsewhere. It is very draining, I have been in a similar position and if you stop updading such managers they exclude you from duties and roles and even team.
If you find yourself in such a situation concentrate on your personal growth with extra time you have as you look for other positions elsewhere.

  • Sometimes, we fail to understand our managers. A manager is to know and understand the day-to-day operations of the business. That is what helps hem... make strategic decisions. This can be as detailed as what you said to a client who walked in and made inquiries.
It's not enough to be employed, you must also learn to lead as an employee.

So instead of asking for power to do things ar the blind side of your boss is not strategic enough as you will also not be comfortable with same if you were the boss.

The best way is to understand how to relate with your boss, and work with him or her in a fulfilling manner.
Do this until your boss knows what you will do even behind him or her

  • Many managers have trouble delegating. They feel nobody can do the job as well as them, and they also feel insecure about some actions being missed.... Your CEO will change when she recognizes it herself, which may not be anytime soon. I you like the job, the work environment and the pay, you may need to accept status quo. Otherwise start looking, while holding the current job. Good Luck more

  • I am facing same issue currently. The worst part is, he doesn't listen yet he clamor to be listened to. Its tiring how he rubbishes my effort and... passion blame when it was really him thats not available for guidance. If you take initiative he complains, if you don't he still complains. And to top it, my team members action is also buttressing his impression that I'm inefficient  more
