Did I do something wrong by asking my boss for a raise? I’ve been doing the whole project alone for two months since my coworker left. But instead of answering, my boss said I should just be grateful to work in such a nice team. He even said my questions could hurt trust in the company. Should I tell him I might quit so he’ll think about raising my salary?

Start looking for another job. Only tell him that you might quit when you have already been offered a better, higher paying job.

  • You are way more marketable when you have a job. Better negotiations are afforded. It is too early in the project, but stick with it and give it... your all so you can reach success. Never let anyone have access to your power. Once the project is done, start your search and leave if you find something more fulfilling. more

  • Please don't quit just yet, its too early to make such a decision considering it has only been two months. Exercise patience and complete the project... as you look for other better opportunities elsewhere if your effort is not being recognized. more

  • Quitting now is not the solution, continue working diligently and let your work speak out for itself. if you leave now in the middle of the project... someone else is coming in to take the glory for your hard efforts. meanwhile start looking for another job because from your boss response there is no hope of any future increment. more

  • u continue working God knows

  • Never threaten to quit. Look for a new job in your spare time. When you get hired by the new company tell your old boss you quit.

  • If it saves your mental health, quit, just ensure you got some safety net for survival as you look for another job.

  • The best way would be patience pain but at last pays, quitting wouldn't be the solution, However where you are heading, Things may backfire and you... loose it all.  more

  • I would not threaten to leave. Just put your head down and do the job, while looking for a new position. You usually do not get an automatic raise... (only a cost-of-living-raise), unless you ask, so you should not have second thoughts, there. more

  • I believe there are so many opportunities out there, do not resign but also look for another job and leave to where you will be appreciated.
You have... build your CV and experience through that project. This may be the reason why your colleagues also left the company  more

  • It appears that the project is still a work in progress. Once it is finished and gets accolades, you become more marketable and your boss will have to... promote you or give you a raise if he wants to be able to keep you. If you mention now that you might quit, be prepared to be fired. It is generally best to have an offer in hand, share it with your boss and, if you like the company and would rather stay, let him know that you are not keen on leaving. Then the ball is in his court and , even if you quit, you would still have amicable relations. more

  • 1. Base your success on what you have done NOT what the others didn't do. You should be able to highlight yourself without tearing another down.
2.... Next time wait for the project results before asking.
    3. Don't threaten an employee with quitting. Its close to blackmail.
    4. Receive an actual job offer before discussing your pay or advancement options with your current employer .

  • If your passionate about what you are doing don't quit please 🙏

  • Before you quit, have an exit strategy and from the looks of it, you would rather not list him as a reference.

  • People don't realize that the work we put in for some one or some agency that doesn't belong to us will be able to classify us as used or useful, we... are useful as long as we are being used. It's the business not the personal feeling in which they hire someone from to make them successful  more

A team player, I start to look for another job but that will not help with the rejection you are feeling. Another conversation with your boss may be... helpful - start with the fact that you are team player and ask what you need to do to move up in the organization. Ask for help to understand - there a lot of reasons you were not given a raise, and they may not have anything to do with you.  more

  • You didn’t do anything wrong by asking for a raise. In fact it is reasonable to do s0 based on the kind of work you did.
You went an extra mile... carrying a full project alone for two months, that means youbhad to work exta time and pressure to see that the project is completed. Any person could ask to be compensated.Asking to be compensated for that extra pressure.
Your boss may have not recognised your effort, so talk him through, let him understand that you did work meant to be done by two people, That way he will understand and address your contribution and avoid shifting into blame.
About threatening to quit is a bit harsh, be careful with that move. Unless you’re genuinely ready to leave and
    you already have another option.
My advice is work hard, let your results defend you.
