Job Summary

The Gender and Protection Assistant will support DHCBI’s efforts to integrate gender equality and protection principles across all project activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all beneficiaries. The role involves community engagement, conducting sensitization sessions, supporting protection initiatives, and maintaining mechanisms for preventing and responding to exploitation and abuse.

The Assistant will work closely with the Gender/Protection Officer to ensure the effective implementation of gender-sensitive and protection-focused strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Program Implementation


Integrate gender and protection principles across project activities.
Facilitate awareness sessions for community members and stakeholders.
Support the establishment of safe spaces for women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Conduct protection assessments to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.


Community Engagement


Engage with community leaders, women’s groups, and other stakeholders.
Promote inclusive participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups in protection initiatives.


Monitoring and Data Collection


Collect and document data on gender and protection outcomes during field activities.
Maintain accurate records, including beneficiary feedback and incident reports.


Reporting and Documentation


Provide regular updates to the Project Manager on activities, challenges, and successes.
Document and share lessons learned to improve future programming.


Training and Capacity Building


Support training of staff and community members on PSEA and gender principles.
Assist in developing IEC materials for community sensitization.


Complaint and Feedback Mechanisms


Help establish and maintain safe, confidential feedback and reporting systems.
Address protection concerns raised by beneficiaries and escalate issues as needed.


Requirements

Education


Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.


Experience


Minimum of 3 years of experience in gender and protection programming, preferably in humanitarian settings.


Skills


Strong understanding of gender and protection concepts, including PSEA.
Excellent communication and community engagement skills.
Ability to collect and analyze gender and protection data.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


Additional Requirements


Willingness to work in remote field locations under challenging conditions.
Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri is an added advantage.
