Hello! I’m a pharmacist at one of the pharmacy chains. When I took this job, I specifically chose a position that came with a company car, partly because I hoped to use it occasionally for personal purposes. My boss recently learned about this and has made it clear that the car cannot be used for anything outside of work, even if I cover the fuel costs myself. I’m struggling to understand why this is such a problem. Without the ability to use the car personally, I’m finding that this job isn’t very appealing to me. I’d like advice on how to continue the conversation with my boss in a professional way.
Thanks

Acknowledge the policy respectfully, then seek clarification and explore alternatives.

    Example:

"Thank you for clarifying the car policy. Could you... help me understand if there’s any flexibility, or if we could adjust my compensation since this perk was a key reason I took the role? more

  • Aknowledge the fact that you are working and being paid ,get your own car for your own personal purposes. For now you have to uphold professionalism

  • First of all, congratulations Emily on your job. This is very simple and clear, company car is company car and should be used only for company... purposes and not personal purposes. Do not push your luck or it will get you terminated. Save up and get your own car and then use it for any personal purpose you desire. Thank you. more

  • Why would you get annoyed, it's a company car, maintain the job follow the policy and work hard to get your own.

  • Good evening,

My kandid advice is that you should forget about the company's car and focus on how to get your own.

  • You using the car for personal use also increases the depreciation value; along with increasing the need for maintenance costs, etc. If you were to... use it for personal use, you would need to cover a portion of the maintenance cost of the car. Your putting miles, etc.  more

  • Emily, a company has the right to establish the policy on how the vehicle is used, and the purposes that it is used for. This is not uncommon at all.... Regardless of how you feel about the rules, they are the rules. If the company finds out you used the vehicle for personal use, they can terminate you for cause. If this makes the job not as appealing, you can always leave and find a new role. I am sure the company has plenty of resumes to fill your position.  more

  • Sound funny, As stated the car is for the company, what else do you need to understand. Yes u don't need to use the car for any outside business. The... best thing is to worked hard and buy yours, u will be at liberty. Your boss is protecting your job and his job .In a situation of accident while using the car for your personal business what will be your say,? Will u coll it an accident. Adhere to his saying. He loves u.worked hard and buy yours. more

  • What does your company policy manual say? If it is an allowable, simply point it out to your boss. If not, end of discussion.

  • Insurance policies only cover that car in working hours. Be ready to fully repair it or replace it in case of any disaster outside working hours. If... the job is not appealing anymore because of the car, then you must weigh the options. The car or the job more

  • Start looking for another job that provides a company car. Make sure during the interview that you get clarity about the ability to use the vehicle... for personal travel. Don’t be shocked when they say NO. Like the rules in your mother’s house, the entity paying the insurance, maintenance and repair bills gets to set the rules.  more

  • Are you searching for an online work from home job ?, kindly inbox me immediately on messenger for more info

  • I honestly can't believe you actually would take ANY job
primarily for a car. I dont know your age, but expecting
to use a company car for...
    personal use sounds very
    entitled to me. But more
importantly, as a pharmacist, I would think your priorities would be the love of your profession, the company culture, and the type of patients you would serve.

  • It is the "company car". That simple

  • Quit and find another one that does.

  • For liability purposes. Simply put. I’m sorry

  • The operative word is 'company' car. Your priority should be on the work you do. If you have an accident in the 'company' car when you use it for... personal reasons the company will use their lawyers to fight your case.  more

  • Park the car at work and let them pay for parking, vandalism, etc. Also, it's not a transparent culture. If you had known, you probably would not have... accepted the position.  more
