Job Description


As an Occupational Hygienist at Venetia Mine, you will play a crucial role in implementing, evaluating, coordinating, and managing occupational hygiene programs to ensure legal compliance and foster a safe and healthy workplace. Your efforts will contribute significantly to minimizing the Mine’s risk of litigation and adverse publicity while promoting a culture of safety and well-being.


Key Responsibilities:


Identify workplace conditions that may cause illness or adverse health effects.
Assess occupational health risks and recommend control measures.
Conduct audits to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
Analyze occupational exposure data and provide trend analysis.
Provide education and training on occupational health hazards and risks.
Assist in incident investigations and setting up PPE standards.
Interprets group strategy and guidelines into systems and procedures
Interpret legislative requirements and implement appropriate measures.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve occupational hygiene objectives and targets.
 Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and leading practices


Qualifications


Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline.
Honours Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline will be advantageous.
5 years of Occupational Hygiene and or Ventilation experience in underground mining and/or processing environment.
3 years of Occupational Hygiene and or Ventilation experience in a supervisor or management position.
Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) as an Occupational Hygienist will be highly advantageous.
Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control (MEC)
Must operate at a strategic level
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is advantageous.


Role-specific Knowledge:


Broad technical knowledge of occupational hygiene, health and mining sector surveillance.
Experience with Occupational Management Systems.
In-depth understanding of applicable legislation and statutory requirements.
Ability to interpret data analytically and follow up on trends.
Proficiency in SAP and or other relevant software.
Good understanding of the impact of occupational hygiene stressor to the health and safety of employees
Sound knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and relevant Codes of Practice.
