PERI-OPERATIVE THEATER TECHNICIANS - (JOB GROUP 11 (‘H’) (12 POSTS)
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT

Be a Kenyan citizen:
Diploma in Perioperative Theatre Technology:
At least three (3) years of experience as a Theatre Technician:
Demonstrate a thorough understanding and commitment to values and principles as outlined in Articles 10 and 232 of the Constitution;
Ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment and sensitivity and respect for diversity;
Must have good inter-personal and communication skills;
Proficiency in computer applications; and
Satisfy the requirement of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

preventing nosocomial infections;
Providing technical services to the theatre team, maintaining safety of patients and the theatre team;
Taking care of the theatre instruments;
Participating in provision of clinical services in operation theatre;
Executing administrative and managerial responsibilities in a hospital with an operation theatre:
Assist in bringing patients to the operating room;
Prepare the surgical site by cleansing or shaving the area;
Wash and disinfect the area before and after surgery:
Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to protocols;
Handle specimens following laboratory procedures and cispose of waste properly;
Support surgeons by passing instruments during operations;
Assist nursing statf in ensuring patient safety, including the application of restraints as needed:
Clean and aisinfect the operating room after each procedure:
Restock and sterilize instruments and equipment following surgery:
Report defective equipment for repair or replacement;
Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and laboratory staff to coordinate care;
Attend to patients’ needs while in the operating room:
Assist in discharging patients as needed;
Perform other assigned tasks from the anesthetist in charge of the theatre; and
Any other lawful duties that may be assigned from time to time.
