Job Purpose


The job holder will be responsible for ensuring that the Authority’s interests are protected through effective preparation and management of contracts.


Key Duties and Responsibilities


Drawing up contracts relating to the Authority’s business transactions to ensure that the Authority’s interests are protected and obligations met;
Undertaking contract administration to ensure that the contract agreements are complied with;
Providing legal advice on building and construction contracts to ensure that the necessary obligations/ interests are captured to avoid future litigation;
Participating in contractual negotiations between KAA and other organizations;
Gathering evidence in cases involving the Authority to establish and verify basis for legal proceedings in order to formulate legal defense or to initiate legal action;
Conducting legal research, developing concept papers, preparing legal briefs and opinions as well as developing effective defense strategies, arguments and testimony in preparation for legal proceedings;
Handling dispute resolution matters and liaising with external counsel for effective and expeditious resolution;
Advising the Authority on industrial relations matters to ensure compliance with the law;
Monitoring the Authority’s compliance to statutes, international conventions and regulations to ensure smooth flow of operations;
Vetting, drawing up and advising on all agreements and concessions to ensure that obligations of the Authority as stipulated in these agreements are implemented;
Ensuring that the Authority’s interests are fully safeguarded by vetting and advising on letters of offer, licenses and leases entered into by the Authority;
Ensuring that land titles for all Authority’s properties are obtained, registered and kept in safe custody for record purposes;
Resolving land issues that arise with regard to land ownership dispute between the Authority and third parties; and
Undertaking legal audit of all leases, licenses and concessions to ensure that risk exposure is eliminated.


Key Qualifications and Experience


Bachelor of Laws from a recognized institution of higher learning
Master of Laws from a recognized institution is desirable
A minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must be in a supervisory position
Post-Graduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law
Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
Certified Public Secretary, Kenya (CPSK) and a Member of Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK)
Member of Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and in good standing
Valid LSK Practicing Certificate
Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
Proficiency in computer applications
