Why does everyone tell me about their family? I spend the whole shift listening and I’m tired of it. Every person who sits in my chair starts talking. Do women think a hairdresser is a therapist or a place to cry? I can’t work properly. Maybe I should put a sign that says “Be quiet” not to go crazy?

Respectfully, if every client tells you about their family, it may be because they’re trying to build a relationship with the person they’re trusting... with their appearance. Most people aren’t looking for therapy—they’re looking for connection. more

  • Every place the person's go to regain some part of themselves ( in your case it is a hairdress or a "had ")is a part of wellness sistem and this means... they fell the relax starting ant that's why they start to talk about all the thing thy have that is stressful or that borders them. You should be honored because of that because it means that they are trusting to you. I can understand that sometimes it could be a bit enough in your days and that's apsolutelly reasonable too. That's why you have to take good care of yourself to ( and you have many examples that are remininding you of that and that is a big fortune 4 you for which you should also be Grateful 😇).If this is one of those days, you could listen to them 4 a 5 min. & than gently lead them to concentrate on their hair, themselves or something nice happened in that thay or positive or funny things and make them smile. This is good 4 them and for you to. I hope this small advice can help you and wishing you well. I am from the wellness and well fair to so I can understand you very well. Have a nice weekend and much susces and happiness in your next week's... 🪷 more

  • A hair-care specialist is a therapist, like it or not. It is a personal relationship like few others... built over time. If you think your role is... strictly about cutting hair, rethink. Pat yourself on the back for being a great listener, as you collect your tip. :) more

  • Sometimes people disclose family information because they want solutions from you. So the best thing is to let them pour their hearts to you and if... you are in position to give advice, do so accordingly. But don't take advantage of their weaknesses. more

  • If you are going to render a personal service you have to expect people to disclose personal information. You are a capitive audience and they clearly... feel comfortable disclosing that type of info. Think about it , you are literally in their heads, maipulating their scalp putting them at ease. Naturally your clients are going to feel comfortable enough to tell you personal things. Just listen or act like youre listening, they wont really now the differnece. Most people dont want answers( in that situation) they just want someone to listen. Make joke of it, " Can I charge a little extra for the therapy session?" and keep it moving. Of all the probems to have in your industry thats a pretty harmless one. Be glad they trust you. Change your attitude and you will get more clients as a result of your seamingly caring nature. Thats a promise. more

  • I recently overheard this conversation on the Upper West Side of Manhattan:

    "I'm your doorman."

    "You're my psychiatrist."
