Hello! I’m hoping for your help, maybe someone has experience with this. I want to open a dog shelter. Where should I start and does anyone have any experience with this?

Contact your town’s zoning officer. It’s likely there are restrictions as to zoning, capacity, insurance requirements, dog waste removal, etc. It may... only be allowed far from other homes so barking will not disturb the peace. more

  • What breed do you want to start with?
I may be of help, because I'm also a dog breeder.

  • Your home is your private space not under law or any restrictions except when your activities are detrimental to society.
-1. Material ; wood, iron... sheets for roofing or plywood covered with rubber
-2. Construct a mon-house, the size depends on number of dogs
-3. Place at a position in your yard where dogs can see all people entering the yard. This scares away thieves.
    4. Keep the structure under lock most times, except when you're home
    5. Give the dog moments to move about in your yard. Keep a doorbell at your gate for visitors to alert you when coming to your house and lock the dog before they come in.
    6. Feed your dog well; three times a day with a good meal.

  • Ensure that it's legally acceptable in terms of what kind of shelter, how many dogs you want to keep and others. Secondly, I would prefer building a... shelter other than renting. more

  • Hi what state are you in, and I would recommend doing a shelter where instead of having to rent a building, you create a network with people who will... foster the dogs who come to your shelter in their homes. And you would also. I believe there's a way to get funding to pay for the dogs' medications and vet bills, but if you don't have a brick and mortar place and instead use your own home and other people's homes as the shelter, that will be more cost effective.  more
