I accepted a job that pays less because they promised a four-day workweek. Three months later, the company quietly went back to five days. I feel completely misled. Would you stay or leave again?

  • I would feel misled too, especially if the four-day workweek was a significant reason you accepted a lower salary. That wasn’t just a minor perk—it... was part of the overall value you considered when deciding to take the position.

Before leaving, I’d have a direct conversation with management and ask whether the five-day schedule is temporary or a permanent change. I’d also explain that you accepted the compensation partly because of the promised schedule.
Their response would probably determine my next move. If they acknowledge the issue and offer a reasonable solution, staying might make sense.
If they dismiss your concerns or act as though the original agreement never mattered, I’d start exploring other opportunities.

Compensation isn’t just a paycheck. Schedule, flexibility, benefits, and quality of life are all part of the deal—and when an employer significantly changes that deal, you’re entitled to reconsider yours.
