Hello, I'm struggling with feeling undervalued at work. My communications department seems unappreciated, and colleagues often make comments that imply I'm not important. This has demoralized me and made me dislike my job, despite loving my profession. My supervisor, who works remotely, regularly acknowledges my good work, but back at the office, I don't have a direct supervisor to report to. They don't even know my job description

The Country Director approached me sarcastically, questioning why I'm still at work after 5 pm, implying I'm not productive. She even mocked me after a meeting, pointing out that I wasn't frequently mentioned. I once overheard HR discussing inviting me to induct a new officer, but they spoke about it sarcastically, questioning what I could possibly contribute.
Fellow workers are all on my neck, making me feel of no good importance despite my efforts
I'm exhausted from the negative energy, and it's affecting my passion for my profession. I'm not sure how to handle this situation

  • Sounds like you work in a toxic environment. Don't mind what others think of you as long as you do your tasks to the best of your ability.
I would... recommend you ask your supervisor to aveil you your job description and also ask them when they will do a performance appraisal. In your free time at work, focus on self improvement activities such as furthering your studies, short courses or working on your business. That job is just a folk in the road and doesn't define your life path. Better things are coming in future and you will have to be prepared both mentally and academically  more

  • The rewards we expect from sacrificing our time. Are far below what we end up with. Basing your worth on other people's opinions and comments. Only... lowers your professionalism. This is what they all lack. Communications are always an issue. When it comes to peers and fellow employees. Fact is the things your observing, hearing and experiencing. Are not cursors, which foretell anything about your character or worth. These are yours to feel proud of and drive you onto better things. Hindsight is always 20/20. Nothing is more stimulating than walking out the door and feeling those eyes staring into your back. That's the real gratification of knowing you're next experience. Is not going to hold you back or effect your vigilance and stature. Go get the things that ate yours. The doors that are open, are the doors you are going to find your tribe.  more
