I’ve been at my company for a year and have always been motivated to build my career. I go the extra mile, work overtime and even come in on weekends. Lately *though* it feels like I’m just being overloaded and used. Do you think this actually leads to a promotion, or is it just a fast track to burnout? Thanks

  • Voice your concerns. Get with management. If you keep sheltering what occurs management doesn't see there's a problem. If you want something ask ?... If they say no are you looking elsewhere? Be ready to be disappointed. I took on a lot because my employer ley me do things . I didn't mind because I could get them to do things I needed in and outside of work. They even gave me commissions of people they let go.  more

  • It is a major change from being enthusiastic to worrying about being squeezed or being burned out. What happened on the way? New boss? Something to do... with your personal life or health?
If personal factors, then the solution may be in your hands. If it is truly external, you may want to seek the help of your boss or HR.
Since you have been an exemplary employee, they should be very receptive to helping you. Try to avoid a blame game. Good Luck

  • Promotions are never a given. It's time to look at the bigger picture in terms of a) your employer, b) the sector and industry your employer is part... of. How are they faring? Is the sector or industry your employer represents growing or in decline?

Pardon my use of metaphors, but let's assume you told us you're working on a beautiful cruise ship with all the latest features and amenities. You tell us you go above and beyond in your work and are wondering if you have a great career prospects. The truth is we don't know, because it depends. Perhaps you're serving on the next Titanic.

  • Keep in mind that it is NOT about activity but rather IMPACT as an individual contributor. The company should be paying you wages for OT which is... different than being used. Def a poor move if they are not compensating for your work more

  • What are your goals and dreams..? Is what you’re doing now going to help you accomplish them, and the life you want? Or are you working your tail off... to help someone else achieve theirs? We are in the business of training, mentoring people to become their own business owner and build their own legacy…  more

That’s not how you build your career. You will definitely be let go soon with that attitude because that’s what happened to me (especially if you... work for government). more

  • Theres is never a promise of a promotion your working more and they pay you for it. Maybe just ask them aboit a promotion

  • Well in this case you are not just working for a promotion but you are also making impact that the company is seeing but with the right time that... hard work will be surely be paid off through any means it can be a promotion or a good offer from somewhere so just keep on working hard because anything good comes from hard working.  more

  • While this approach is usually seen as a way to showcase your relevance in an organization as newly entrant, you doing this within the scope of... knowledge is vital. Intentionally be zealous in the path of engagement that leads you forward in that organization. This will make you SPOTTED by the needed Leaders who are out there to seek diligent employees!
I can practically tell you this as a beneficiary of this piece as well.

  • It's a fast track to burnout. I advise you get employees to assist you in doing the extra work. Split and divide the job according to employees... specialization.  more
