Since I began my role as a Front Desk Officer, I’ve consistently strived to deliver exceptional service, earning the appreciation of my oprations manager and some supervisors, and they recommended me to the General Manager for recognition in all areas of my performance.

However, this recognition seems to have caused some tension with certain supervisors, like the house keeping supervisor and the marketing supervisor who have expressed frustration towards me. Recently, the General Manager decided to replace underperforming supervisors, and with my boss's recommendation, I’ve been considered for a potential promotion to one of these leadership positions. While I am honored by this opportunity, I do have concerns that my advancement might be misinterpreted by some as a cause for the current changes in the team.

I want to make it clear that my focus has always been on contributing positively to the team, and I never intended for my growth to negatively impact anyone else’s position. I am simply eager to continue to learn, improve, and contribute to the success of the hotel.
Please let me know if i should go for the offer of taking the suppervisor possition?

The fact is, you are not responsible for people's reaction toward anything. If you accept the role, there would be people that will be bothered. If... you don't, there will be people who will be bothered. So ask yourself, can I really please all of them? I don't know for you but that's practically and theoretically impossible.

The question that matters here is, have I earned the spot I am being given? Answer it with all honesty. Afterwards the answer will be there. Do not let people failure be your burden.

  • Keep the candle burning and go for the position. As some will always complain, those you inspire will finally testify. Kudos

  • It's great that you feel so much concern for other people's feelings, but this is a situation where you really just need to worry about yourself and... your performance. The problem is likely that you're doing such a good job that those who haven't responded to this with resounding positivity and support, are only doing so because they feel insecure about their own underperformance, which your presence shines a spotlight on (at least, in their own minds it does).

You should change nothing and keep doing your thing, and when it comes time to accept a promotion, graciously accept it and then show them what it looks like when professionals are at work. You feel me, boss?

  • I am a South Bronx kid who after my time in the Marine Corps had to climb the corporate ladder using guts, teflon armor, & a certain level of respect.... Many times, like you, others have used, abused, manipulated and even sabotaged my climb at many levels. That’s when I know that I am on the right track. Keep your honor clean, climb as much or as wide as you can. Understand that a Ferrari must alway avoid potholes on the road. Some you see off the bat but it’s those hidden ones that can blindside you. You level of integrity is alway recognized by those of higher vibration. You will need to pocket that frustration and allow others to deal with their own emotional shortcomings. If it’s not you, it will be somebody else. You keep doing what you are doing buddy. Proud of you as many are but never stop being proud of your self. It gets tougher as you climb but you are one with Gods light & God always wins!
    Stay blessed!

Nobody likes it when their position is threatened in whatever way. If you are working hard to grow then you owe it to yourself to take the... opportunity. The fact is that once the changes are official they will have no option that to conform. Chin up and remember what brought you there more
