Hey everyone! I’m a mom on maternity leave. I’ve been home for a year already. My job was expecting me to come back on March 1, but I’m pregnant again and told them I’m going on maternity leave again, so I won’t be returning yet.
They said I can stay home for 4 more months and then that’s it, otherwise they’ll fire me.
Is that even allowed? Can they fire someone who’s pregnant and on maternity leave? Thanks!

    Hello 👋

I would like to congratulate you. I am truly proud of you, and I must say you have done very well.

Please understand that your workplace is... an organization, and as such, they need to continue operating smoothly. They rely on their staff to keep things moving forward, and it may be difficult for them to accommodate another year of absence. For the business to grow and progress, they need active participation from their team.

In light of this, I would kindly advise that you consider resigning for now, so you can focus fully on taking care of the babies. When the time is right, you can always return to work. This allows the organization to continue functioning without stagnation while also giving you the space you need at this important stage.

They value you and your role, but unfortunately, your unavailability for another year makes it challenging for them to plan effectively.

  • This is a very interesting one. Balancing family needs and career goals can be challenging and that's the place you are at. There is no balance in... your case. This means that one side is suffering. In this particular situation you need to resign and give your family the attention they need because your employer may not afford to pay someone who hasn't worked for them for 2 years. And you never know if another blessing in form of a third pregnancy will follow immediately after this second one. more
