I got offered a job in an adult store. And know that this is the usual job of a seller. +I really need money. But that shop’s just one neighborhood away from my college. I’m seriously worried that classmates or even teachers might see me there. Ugh, I don’t know. Should I take the job or not?

  • If you are not gonna be uncomfortable having your College Friends and Teachers see you in one of such Stores, it simply means you have a reputation to... protect. Like all businesses, individuals also have core values. If one of your core values revolves around morality and decency then, I advice you priorities your integrity and go look for jobs that align with what is dear to your personality and character.

  • If you take the job and later decide to apply for a government or legal position, it will show up when they do a background check.

  • Take the job! I think some people misunderstand the term adult store. An adult store is simply a shop that sells products people use to meet personal... needs—it doesn’t mean you are doing anything inappropriate. You’re a salesperson, not a user. If friends or teachers ever walk in, that says more about them than you. You’re not doing anything immoral—just gaining work experience and transferable skills like customer service and sales. So they should be the ones to be embarrased, not you. Don't worry! more

  • Liz where about are you

  • Been there, if you are that concerned, don't take the job. If you don't care, do what you want and what makes you comfortable. If you can handle the... ignorance that comes with such a job, by all means take it, if not, it's not the job for you. Much ignorance comes with anything people fear and people fear sexuality. It carries a stigma because of ignorance and perversion. You are the master of your fate, Lizzy.  more

  • Honestly if the pay is so good that the cost of your reputation is worth it, go for it! Your classmates or teachers are not paying your bills, but if... you want to prevent any repercussions then maybe wear some type of disguise like a wig, mask, makeup and /or style of clothes different from what you usually wear. This isn't a sure fire way but again if the pay is good, go for it! more

  • You are asking for some advice about a job, right? To my knowledge, you are the one responsible for how you feel. Having the confidence to focus on... what is important to you is your business. If you are worried about what others think of you all the time, it will consume you. You will not be happy. Stay focused on your goals. Know that you are capable of accomplishing the goals you want to achieve. Will people talk? yes. Should you be concerned with that? Maybe. What you are interested in doing is your business. Now how you carry yourself says a lot. Many people have done things that no one knows about and then so many people know about. Those people have held their heads up HIGH, and gone on the the next goal. Remember that you have to know who you are and as you experience what you experience, you will find out more about yourself. Know that any decision you make, is your decision. Take the responsibility for your choices and you will always be able to keep moving forward. Stay strong more

  • Taking the job can be perfectly respectable if it meets your needs and aligns with your values—but only if you feel comfortable handling the social... and emotional side of it. You should weigh your financial urgency against potential discomfort from classmates or teachers, consider how you’ll maintain boundaries and privacy, and explore whether this opportunity supports your long-term goals. If you can frame the work as honest, skill-building, and temporary, it might be a smart move. If you find the anxiety outweighs the benefits, keep searching—your next opportunity could be just around the corner, too. Maybe, ask yourself, “If I were a parent and my son or daughter asked me about working in an adult shop, what would I tell him/her? more
