The primary objective of the mental health assessment is to identify the key mental health and psychosocial needs of the affected populations in Sokoto, Borno and Yobe States, evaluate existing services and recommend   evidence-based strategies to enhance ACF MHPSS programming.

Profile of the consultant (Qualification and Experience)

The selected consultant or team should possess:


Advanced qualifications in psychology, psychiatry, mental health, public health, sociology and or any related fields.
Proven experience in conducting mental health assessments in both humanitarian and developmental settings
Provide a proven track record of similar assignments completed in the past, including references or links to these works where possible.
Strong knowledge of the cultural and socio-political context of northeast/west  Nigeria.
Expertise and familiarity with mixed method research, excellent analytical and report writing skills


SCOPE OF WORK:

This assessment also aims to evaluate existing services and referral pathways, human resource capacity for mental health service delivery and integrating mental health into health, nutrition, protection, WASH and FSL programs. The target population includes IDPs, host communities, women, children and other vulnerable groups, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the diverse MHPSS needs in the region

Assess the prevalence and types of mental health conditions among the targeted population (IDPs, host communities, returnees), with a focus on vulnerable groups such as women, children and individuals with disabilities.


Evaluate the availability, accessibility and quality of existing MHPSS services in Sokoto, Borno and Yobe States.
Identify gaps and barriers in MHPSS service provision, including cultural and  societal factors influencing mental health care delivery.
Recommends strategies for integrating MHPSS into broader humanitarian and development programs, including health, nutrition, protection, WASH and FSL
Assess the prevalence and types of mental health conditions among the targeted population (IDPs, host communities, returnees), with a focus on vulnerable groups such as women, children and individuals with disabilities
