I am a married woman with 2 kids. My husband is a mechanical engineer, and he lost his job over 1 year 3 funnily i also lost my job the month after.
Life hasn't been easy because we had to manage and feed on hope and pray for better days while trying our best to ensure the family is fine and we are able to get by with the basic needs.
Fortunately, I got a job after 1 year, although the pay was very small compared to my last salary, but I took the job because half a loaf is better than none.
After 1 month of working i was asked to stop and i wasnt paid for the extra day i worked and since then i have been broken because i had to get a laptop for the work as the previous laptop stopped working. I used all my savings to pay for the laptop, and now I can't even balance up, and this man, after promising to pay me, has refused to pay me. I am completely shattered, and I really need help. Please, what should I do?

So sorry to hear your circumstances. You taking a "half of loaf" job is commendable. It demonstrates your commitment to making things work. If you... have a pay dispute, document EVERYTHING you believe you are owed and write a FORMAL letter and send to your old employer asking for the pay. If they refuse, you have other remedies through your state's Labor department. Did you have to go out and purchase a NEW laptop? Maybe reaching out to your network with an ask for someone's unused one may have been a better option. Hang in there. This appears to be a temporary setback. Remember, we are judged not by what happens, but how we respond .  more

I agree with the previous commentators, your mindset to earn and provide is commendable, it is the only way forward, and honestly cannot be taught.... Sometimes axioms that seem so bland and basic like "keep pushing", "the only way forward is up", etc are the only things we have to hold on to. I second the previous responder as well regarding how we are judged no by what happens, but how we respond. Your expressions of pain, being wronged, are all valid and you should feel them and process them. but just based on this little glimpse of how you have responded before, getting a job to make sure you had half a loaf, is going to serve you well. take some time, dust yourself off, and get back at it.  more

  • That’s an incredibly difficult situation, especially when you and your husband have both been dealing with employment challenges while trying to... provide stability for your family.

Regarding the unpaid wages, I would document everything you have—messages, emails, the days and hours you worked, the agreement regarding your pay, and any promises that were made about payment. Depending on where you live, there may be a labor or employment agency that can help you pursue wages you are legally owed.

At the same time, try not to let this experience discourage you from continuing your job search. Taking a lower-paying position to help your family wasn’t a failure—it demonstrated determination and a willingness to keep moving forward during a very difficult period.

Sometimes circumstances knock us backward, but perseverance means continuing to look for the next opportunity even when the path forward isn’t easy. I hope a much better opportunity comes your way soon.
    Hope this helps...
