I’ve been working at a bank for four months. During this time, they’ve sent me to corporate training three times. The problem is that the training lasts two days and takes place on weekends. So I work all week, then spend Saturday and Sunday at training until 4-5 p.m. and on Monday I go back to work again. I’m really tired and don’t get any proper rest. Is it even legal to make employees work on weekends like this?

    My good friend. You must be lucky that you have a Job, so please note the following;
    1. Trainings are normal in most institution to strengthen their... processes.
    2. There are 52 weeks in a year, so having 5 to 7 engagements in a year is not bad.
    3. You need knowledge to understand the Mission and Vision of your Company.

  • Croatia has a law that an employee has to have rest at least complete 24 hours. Look for it in your state’s Labour act.

  • Like Daniel said,
Look at it as career development and gain new knowledge staying up with some trends, etc.
    I definitely understand being tired....
I’ve studied music most of my life.
    I’m usually up at 7 a - until 11 pm - sometimes 12 midnight!!

last week I was lucky to get into this one Music conference. I learned a lot and met some other great musicians and music Bus people.

Like others have said here, Enjoy what you’re doing. There may be more later in the year. When I was a musician on a cruise ship, as part Crew, We, Are Musicians and our crew Had to keep up with Maritime laws like every three or four months, Do the test on computers.
Even my teaching at MAA - there’s training they require.

  • Sending you for corporate training builds you and contributes value to you and the company.
Mind you, this is like investment, this is also beneficial... for your growth in the future and to the company for their own initiatives.
    Two things:
1.You either grow from it or be open to your superiors that your not interested in the corporate training which will sound insubordination and recalcitrant.
2.its part of team development, skill set building for the company, and if that’s their trajectory then stay put and enjoy the ride

  • Training for what? Are you paid by the hour? Have you asked you employer how the specific training sessions set you up for more pay higher position in... the company? If these are "leadership" trainings this is a very good resume building aspect, make sure that you document the month and year of the training(s) and the company providing the training and most importantly the title of the training with the title page description of each session. Sometimes companies that we work for do things like this and it makes it easier for us to leave... take home message, free training = money, take it!  more

  • It is not legal in most countries to require employees to work on weekends without proper rest, especially if it results in excessive fatigue and a... lack of adequate rest. Labor laws typically protect employees from working excessive hours, including on weekends, and require reasonable rest periods. The specific legality depends on the country and the terms of employment, but working long hours on weekends without sufficient rest is generally against labor laws and ethical work practices. You should consider discussing this with your employer or seeking guidance from a labor rights organization. more
