In our department, everyone sucks up to the boss and pretends to be “friends” with her.
But I can’t do that, I just focus on doing my job well and maintaining personal boundaries.
That’s why I never receive bonuses.
Should I at least start looking for a new job?

  • Do not pretend, and don't be at loggerhead with her too. Just be yourself, hard work pays . If the bonus is not subject to sucks up, then you have... the right to write politely to your boss to make a claim. Don't leave when it is not yet time. more

  • Don’t suck up to your Boss. People will see through that and abuse or manipulate you. Instead, Be the person who is so great at their job it’s... undeniable. Be the best, be the go-to personal, and show your boss that you are reliable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable. Sucking up only diminishes your worth and credibility . more

  • It will not hurt you to be a bit more friendly with your co-workers, with at least a simple greeting as you begin your work day!

  • Bonuses shouldn’t be subjective but actually objective and measurable matrix. However if that is not that case, there is a way to be pleasant and... engaging without “sucking up”.  more
