Hey! I had an interview yesterday and realized that if I lied and said I fit all the job requirements, they would hired me. But I don’t have all the skills, so how would I do the job?
I decided to be honest and they didn’t take me. Now I’m thinking, maybe I should just lied and dealt with it later?

Major reason folks get fired is they lie or withhold information.

  • So, you're telling us you were truthful in your responses at the interview and now you're second-guessing being honest. It makes me wonder how... deeply-held your principles are.

The decision to live an ethical life isn't a casual decision and certainly not one takes as a matter of convenience or material rewards. Living accordingly to principles is its own reward, something that allows one to face the man or woman in the mirror and sleep comfortably at night.

Beyond the matter of principle, what makes you certain that you would have been hired if you had misrepresented your credentials? Do you actually think that the interviewers are so easily conned that they would accept a job candidate's claims regarding his or her credentials at face value without probing more deeply. Falsifying your credentials would risk your eventually being discovered as lacking both the required job qualifications and integrity. Take the high road -- always. The best job is the one that is a good fit for both you and the employer.

  • Never turn yourself down in the interview room . Even when asked whether you know how to fly an aircraft and you don't know, say you know. Many of... learning we get them as we work  more

  • It is very important always to position yourself in something that you can handle best other than pretending and later discover you're not relevant to... something you assumed too.

  • Congratulations on the opportunity to interview! Don't stress, God has better. Ask Him where is it He'd like you to work. Lieing only leads to more... lies. more

  • Being real to yourself is key. You did what is right though you could have added a statement on further training to sharpen those skills

  • You never lie, however you tell them.with proficient training you can become proficient quickly. You're a quick study. It's okay you didn't get hired.... You'll find something that's made for you. They're not the only company even if you wanted really bad. It's okay. God will lead you and the door that is for you will be open.  more

  • Definitely don’t lie about your skills. However you may have the skills in some cases but don’t realize it. I would suggest to write down all you’ve... done job wise but also write down things you’ve learned and done outside of your job, things that are self taught, extra curricular activities etc., and all other things you’ve been responsible for even leadership wise. If you tell an employer that you don’t have a specific skill you can followup by high lighting similar skills to what they are asking for. For example if you lead a league in your town that is still a position of leadership still and you can use that same “skill with people” for leadership teams. You just have to know how to (re)position yourself for the position. If you need help with your skills use chatgpt to help you and just write down everything you’ve done in your life and let it tell you what likely skill you already have. Use your current experiences to your advantage while learning new ones and be confident.  more

  • I completely understand how you feel, honesty can sometimes feel like a disadvantage in interviews, especially when you know you could grow into the... role quickly.

But in the long run, being truthful protects your credibility and sets you up for genuine success. It’s always better to say, “I don’t have that specific skill yet, but I’m confident I can learn it quickly,” rather than pretending.

Employers who value integrity often notice that mindset and respect it, even if they don’t choose you this time. Keep developing your skills, the right opportunity will value both your potential and your honesty.
