Good afternoon. I want to share my situation.
I have the most powerful computer at work because I officially asked for it and explained why I need it for my job. Management approved it and gave me a new, very good computer.
Now a coworker from another department wants to take my computer and swap with hers. She says her old computer is too weak because she often watches movies at work. I said no.
After that, she started telling management bad things about me and saying that I don’t use the computer for work. I tried to talk to her, but she is threatening me - either I give her my computer, or she will keep saying that I work badly.
Do you think I should talk to management about this? Thank you for your advice.

  • Most organisations have Respectful Workplace Adviser or Peer Support Volunteers please get in touch with one for further guidance or the HR. No one... should harass you at work. Document all threats and gracefully continue your work. Any misuse of a computer can be tracked. No one should threaten you. You all signed a work code of conduct. You have a right. Stand up and speak up! more

This captain said "Oh, Accounting will be taking that one" and I immediately responded with "No, IT will be taking that one because it's meant to run the whole network, thus supporting the entire unit.". • Should have gone to your line manager immediately. Write down all the reasons you should keep it and maybe she should try asking them for hers to be... replaced! more

  • Don't give out

  • The computer was given to you by management and you cannot just swap it based on someone's threat. And if you swap it, your justification to get the... computer is invalidated and you will get in trouble with management.
Unless there is some truth in her threats, what are you afraid of? A blackmailer may not be satisfied with its first victory and may have other demands as well.
Looks like a rather uncomfortable situation. You can share your weakness with management and disarm her. Think it through. Choose your poison. Good luck.

  • Mmm any direct or indirect threat in work space should be reported. I held on to mine and it led to my resignation, when I spoke to the HR, she said I... should have mentioned. I didn't want another man to loose his source of income at my own expense, today am searching for something as good as I lost please don't be quiet if you can record your conversation for evidence.  more

  • With a question like that I would have taken your computer and gave you a referbished one. Use that same gusto you used to ask for the proper tools to... do your job by making a formal complaint to HR as well as to your direct manager. Make it in writing first so you emotoons do not mess it up and make sure that you state that you have been systematically bullied to releasing company equipment assigned to you by corporate to said cowork/team member through threats of violence.
If you do not stand ground & act like a professional (which I am sure you claim to be) and take a stand, you will fail in business (Job). Make the call now, at this very moment to HR 24/7 hotline. Leave a message if you have to but do it now. There is no "Oh lets wait and see if they retihnk their request" in business. They are jelious because you had the guts and professionalism to ask for the tools that you required. These leaches in business will ride your coat tails & steal your ideas, equipment and reputation
