I had a job interview for an economist role at a small company. They asked if I’d be willing to do more than what’s in the job description.
I asked how much more, and if it would help my career growth. The director and HR both said they don’t want someone so stubborn, they want loyal employees.
I didn’t get the job, and I don’t understand what I said wrong.
Thanks for your thoughts

Today companies are looking for loyal employees. The problem is that companies are not loyal to their employees. They expect 2 weeks notice when you... leave but give you 15 minutes notice when they lay you off. more

  • They were looking for something in you .. you could have dodged the bullet easily but saying so long as it falls within your qualifications you are... okay  more

  • They are looking for a slave for hire

  • Some employers tend to imagine they that candidates for the interview need the employer than the employer need the employee. Both parties need each... other in equal measure. You asked a valid question because from onset you need to appreciate the scope of what your job will entail. more

  • You did not say anything wrong.

You asked a question and they don’t care to accommodate your knowledge. Be proud of yourself. That was not for you.... What is meant for you will not deny you. You asked before being hired as to what would be expected of you and how you could benefit at the same time. They don’t want to see people excel. They want subordinates and followers. You are informed and educated about your worth. They don’t want you because you are worth more than what they are willing to accommodate. Sounds like they want slaves to their mission. Do what we want and need. Do what we say and nothing else. You don’t have an opinion unless we give you one.

Stay strong and what is meant for you will come.

  • Loyalty is a pivotal point to every employer but not at the expense of the employee personality and prestige.

  • You just survived a very Toxic work environment.. Them labelling your inquiry for a stubborn person was a red flag on their side..
Your question... caught them off guard....
I alway tell people that whatever comes out of your mouth is exactly your character and what your brain or body is communicating...
Just celebrate that u saved yourself from a toxic place and people.. They saw u as someone not easy to manipulate hence labeling your question Stubborn..

  • Wow that.was a cheeky response from them. It also says to me that you dodged a bullet on this one. What they were actually looking for is someone who... would do.whatever was dumped in theor plate no questions asked, and very likely no remuneration. All under the guise of loyalty. Insinuating someone ia stubborn also suggests they want blind loyalty without being questioned. That is never a good indicator of sound business practices. Count yourself lucky for not getting the job. This may well have just saved your career and possibly more. more
