I want to pursue a certification for accountant but the microfinance I work for doesn't expect it's employees to have anything that distracts them from work.


As a matter of fact, working hours are from 7:30 AM up until 6:30 PM on average days monday to Friday (Saturdays work stops at about 4:20 PM give or take).


I don't know how I'll balance the two because the company has no guidelines for such and its seen as a potential reason for employee exit which they don't want!

What should I do?

    Where's your location and I will strongly advise you look out for something that will enable you further your studies.

    Those guys will just use and... dump you afterwards.
    I suffered this for 11years and today I have regretted not taking a decision early enough.      more

    Do it anyway. There are online classes that you may be able to attend.

    Go for professional studies, this would enabled you pursue your further studies specially with e-learning/distance learning programmes.

    In case you... are required to do your in-house
    exams, you can request for the examination leaves or do it through microwave.     more

    Not sure what country you are in but that’s a lot of hours which would make getting additional education difficult. You have to plan study time too... which is typically 2 or 3 additional hours of your time for every hour spent in class. A lot of companies in some countries actually encourage their employees to get more education and offer tuition reimbursement. Maybe it is time to look at other opportunities.  more

    Do you have any paid vacation time ? Take that 1 day a week off for classes them take sick time for other finallyget a doctor’s note for medical... reasons off and finally talk to disability dept and claim disability. For reasons agreed by vdoc’s dept; beem there took me 10 years to get my MBA then said goodbye and claimed my vacation due- been there.  more

    You seem to be working much more than 40 hrs a week. Hope you like your work and get paid well. This work environment does not leave you enough time... to properly pursue the studies.
    That brings you to a decision. If studies are important, you may want to switch to an employer who encourages self improvement and has more normal hours. It may possibly involve salary cut and you may have to foot the bill.
