This job description (JD)/scope of work (SOW) sets forth the services to be provided by the Driver to Technical Advice Connect LTD/GTE (TAConnect), a non-profit organization registered in 2021 and based in Nigeria to bring innovative solutions to the provision of

Technical Assistance (TA) services across Africa.

Background:

TAConnect was established by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to deliver tailored and cohesive support to states in Nigeria by strengthening their
PHC systems and enhancing PHC service delivery. As an innovative platform, we respond to state TA priorities to promote sustainable improvements in state Primary Healthcare (PHC) systems’ performance and increase uptake of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) services. The Driver, under the guidance of the HR & Operations Specialist, will provide secure and timely driving services, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Logistics & Travels:

Drives office vehicles for the transport of staff, officials, and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items. S/He will be expected to travel extensively within the state to provide monitoring and technical support to sites, and participation in training, meetings, outreaches, and program review

workshops.

Vehicle Maintenance:

Ensuring that the vehicle is kept in good running condition at all times through addressing minor repairs, making arrangements for major repairs, timely
changes of oil, checking of tires, brakes, water levels, and car washing.

Information management:

Ensuring the availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logbooks, fuel voucher booklet, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities.

Job Qualifications

A minimum of secondary education is required, along with a valid Driver’s License,
Trade Test Certifications.
A minimum of two years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in an NGO or similar environment.
Fluency, as well as proficiency in English, is required. Understanding other local languages is an added advantage.
Good knowledge of the country map and routes
Understanding of auto mechanics required, certification in mechanics or automobile maintenance is an added advantage.
Good physical health
Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, and courtesies
Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with others
High sense of confidentiality, initiative, and good judgment
Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Knowledge of basic automotive maintenance procedures
Ability to operate a vehicle and good driving skills
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Supervision
The Driver will report directly to the HR & Operations Specialist or his/her designee
Working Conditions/Duration of Assignment
This is a long-term position based in Abuja, Nigeria.
