Don’t you think that HR people who conduct interviews are completely incompetent?
How can some young girl in glasses possibly understand whether I'm a good financial analyst or not?
She just asks standard questions and doesn't understand the specifics of the company at all.
And yet she rejects candidates. How can I get through to an interview with the management?

  • Hope you ok am an Hr manager and see what you mean but at the end some companies hire people and it doesn't matter how old the girl is remember she... has all questions to ask you and they tell her what to ask according to the job spec. more

  • I would go in with a positive and respectful attitude. Age is not directly related to judgement. HR is not always competent in every job they handle.... They can do the routine evaluation and pass on acceptable candidates to hiring departments for further evaluation.
If after these considerations, you still do not like the company or its choices, it is time to move on. A positive attitude is important in your job search. Good luck.

What does wearing glasses have to do with anything?

  • HR should be abolished and we should have pre-work days to see if the candidates fit the position. 2 weeks should be the standard. Can also be paid 2... weeks just to make it more attractive for the candidates. HR to me was created for Lazy workers to complain to someone.  more

  • You have asked exactly what i always ask. Surely i goes beyond the standard questions and knowing more about the organization in question. The rest... always come afterwards

  • Dealing with the HR person first is a necessary evil. Be helpful to the person interviewing you. Self-righteous and condescending people are a dollar... a dozen. Check any airs that you have in that way at the interviewers door. They need to learn, too. Nobody ever came out of mom with any business oriented skills.

  • I love this. But the challenge is sometimes when these recruiters not independent.

  • “How can some young girl in glasses” puzzles me. What do glasses have to do with her qualifications to interview someone? BTW, there are many young... financial experts, so age may or may not be an indicator either. more

  • Most of the the time they are just doing interviews for protocol, they already have their person

  • Hi Mark - the best ways to get through to the hiring manager portion of the interview, if you’re lucky enough to get to the recruiter screening... phase:
    1. The hiring manager tells the recruiter what they are looking for as an ideal candidate. The recruiter ensures that you can articulate that you meet out exceed the minimum requirements of the job and outshine other candidates over the phone or video screen.
    2. You have been referred by an employee of the company or someone who knows the manager
    3. They found you on through their sourcing of candidates and asked if you would be interested in interviewing for the position

  • As a former technical recruiter, many corporations have inhouse technical and nontechnical recruiters who understand each specialized postion to... recruit candidates from other companies and are working direcrly with the hiring manager for said position and are able to review and interview candidates to see if they are qualified.
HR has very different responsibilties from recruiters in many corporations. They handle processing paperwork, Osha, EEO, Employee relations, and many other duties. Recruiters are headhunters focused on finding the qualified needle in a haystack candidates to hire for corporations.
