I quit without another job because my boss humiliated me in front of my team. It felt like the only way to protect my dignity. Now, after months of unemployment, I'm questioning whether dignity was worth the financial cost.

  • Just quiting isn't much of a strategy. Use the humiliation as fuel to build some leverage. Get more education, start a business, apply for other jobs,... then quit as soon as you see the next opening.  more

  • Blessings to all of you. Working, having a job, be employed with a company does not give a superior the right to humiliate you.
I remember working in... hospital and a superior yelled at one of the staff. They then looked at me and stayed if I were an employee that I would be treated the same.
I looked at the superior in there eyes and said firmly you would never speak to me like that. I let the superior know if you ever have something to say to me you will take me in the office and talk to me. I then stated you will never yell at me. The superior could my seriousness, turned and walked away. I was contacted at that time. Not to long after I left. I trained some employees to take over.
I do not do toxic. It is better to have peace. Still today they are looking for me to come back.

  • I'm going through some issues with my boss as well. I haven't quit because I want to preserve my dignity. I'm fighting back through the proper... channels and making some progress, but it is quite difficult.

If I do lose my job, at least I know I didn't let them get the best of me.
I feel your pain. Don't give up. Many others like you do quit as well. A lot of toxic work environment out there. Your never alone. Best of luck.

  • Michael.. Been there. I had a child. I took a deep breath, replied to my supervisor, sorry I will do the way you want it done. I kept my job and If I... had to do it all over again, I will do it the same way.  more

  • The best strategic move in this case is to get your boss to fire you instead of quitting or finding another job first, and, when your boss is not... expecting it, leave the job. Employed people can find jobs much more easily than the unemployed. If your boss fires you, then you have a lot of legal rights to teach her/him a good lesson. more

  • Have you tried Staffing Agencies I know where I am from Ranstad is good and legitimate. They helped a family member get a temp Fed job and she... couldn't cut the mustard. Late on her first day, that Fed agency said goodbye. But depending on what you want you may have to get two jobs, there are also apprenticeship programs. They need People bad and not all of it is heavy labor. I stayed at a job like that it was pure hell. Hindsight I wished I would have invested in myself instead of years at the job. Only upside was that I was able to help a bunch of People who would have otherwise been lost and I mean lost like out of here. It's okay, you will be okay. Also try state career link, Dept of labor. They are really good with helping Folks get jobs especially if you quit. Be Positive and Stay Focused. Lord knows! more

  • Right there with you and although I keep questioning that decision, I know that I'd rather be broke and happy than rich and miserable. No amount of... money is worth putting up with a toxic boss. Find some side gigs to tide you over while looking for what I hope will be a dream job! Best wishes! more

  • I had a similar experience about 5 years ago. My new boss employed his girlfriend in my department. I has the team lead in the department. When this... lady was brought, she didn't know anything. But bacause of her relationship with the manager, she started acting like my boss. I was asked to be training her but at the same time reporting to her. When I refused, the manage was upset with me and he would insult for no good reason at all. Out of anger, I quit my job. The next one year was tough. Sometimes quitting out of anger is not the right thing to do. For bread winners, quiting requires planing and preparation. Safety comes first more
