I am an LPN, I have been a nurse for over 20 years, the establishment, companies deny not hiring due to age but I cant find a job. I have actually tried outside of nursing but geez emplowers think if you have been a nurse you cant do anything else. Nursing is all about customer service, working in home health, case management, remote rokes, yet I apply for jobs and hear nothing back Suggestions????

    Sometimes when people want to change jobs after a long tenure in a profession, they over sell themselves. If a position asks for 10 years experience,... don’t give them 20, here’s why. 1. More experience = More Money; 2. More experience than required = older person. 3. Overselling makes you look desperate. If you have been doing something for 20 years and apply for positions asking for less experience, be prepared to accept less money.

    Another option is finding a specialty within your industry and concentrating on establishing and developing a network

  • With 20 years of experience, I would suggest considering teaching in the nursing field. May workforce development programs are looking for instructors... for CNA and other related fields. If not teaching, open your search to include relocating or reframing your experience to attract a different type of employer.  more
