I lied in an interview about why I left my previous company because I was embarrassed to say I was fired. I got the job, but now I'm worried the truth will eventually come out. Should I come clean?

  • Mark Twain once said: "Always tell the truth, that way you never have to remember anything". The truth will eventually come out, and then what will... you do? Tell another lie? Use life's challenges to make you stronger. Focus on the firing as a wake-up or a learning experience that made you a better person or employee.  more

  • Just work as you continue to wait for the truth to come out. Most of the things we worry about don’t happen anyways. You’ll be good, just be ready to... face it when it happens but don’t lose sleep over worrying about it. more

  • What you fear most has a way of happening to you.

    Kill that thought immediately.
    Repent
    Forgive yourself
    And be productive.

    Let it go.
    Else,... you'll suffer for it.
The devil is manipulating your mind, if you allow it, it will ruin you

  • An Employer can't disclose how you left your job. They legally can only say if you were a former employee and that is all; unless you used the... supervisor as a reference then they can speak to your character and work ethic. Leave it be and best of luck in your new position! more

  • Everyone makes missteps when under pressure in interviews. Focus your energy entirely on excelling in your new role rather than worrying about a past... chapter that is already closed.  more

  • Most times we make the mistake of thinking we need to actually tell our new employer why we left... that question is to test how discreet and... professional you are. The truth thr reason you left is really none of your new employers business... so the answer shouldn't have been that deep... just tell them that your time there came to an end and it was time to for you to move on... more

  • The company that you left, by law, is not allowed to tell your new company why you left. So no. You don't need to worry. Except that such a law is... nearly impossible to enforce, and people do it all the time. Were you fired for cause? Like theft or abuse or something? If so, you should probably keep it to yourself. But if you were fired for no reason at all, or laid off, you may as well come clean.
Am I advising you to be dishonest? No. You've already done that. It's up to you how to proceed.

  • I think you should now focus on improving your performance. At the end of the day, what matters most to the company is the value you deliver.
There... may be several positive commitments your new company has made to you, but so far, none of them have turned into reality. more
