I have been interviewed several times on Teams, told I was hired, and then offered a check to pay for the cost of setting up a home office. My bank would not accept the check. So, does that mean that every job interview conducted through Teams is a scan? This happened to me three times.

  • YES! I've gotten random text messages similarly about jobs in the past. The moment they ask me for money or talk able giving me a check to pay for... anything... It's an automatic block. Honestly, if they're initiating contact with you through text message, especially if you've never applied... DEFINITELY a scam. more

  • You've been scammed and thank God they didn't pull money from you account as they have many others. You have to do your due diligence. Call the... employer and asked for the person who is contacting you. I've even turned scammer in. Do not fall for that.... They are scammers. The old way of interviewing still applies... In-Person... God bless. CC  more

  • You may also want to bring it to the attention of State Officials - they have a department that tracks fraud of this nature. I submitted a few of... these scam checks that were sent to me - hopefully they can shut the perpetrators down...... more

  • Most likely. They send you money, then clear out your account.

  • They tried to do me with a check; it was pretty elaborate. They tried to send me a check of another business all the way across the country, saying... they have to pay me over what was agreed and to send the difference! 😝. I knew that wasn’t cool, so I Googled the other company and contacted them, who confirmed it was a scam. I do my homework on these people! more

  • I have had people send me texts and as me to go on telegram or what’s app to chat and I wont

  • I have a remote job and then I have had those teams interviews as well. You have to look up the company before the interview. Also, during the... interview, is someone on video or are they just talking through chat. Teams is a video conference platform like Zoom, if they aren't interacting through video on either one, I am not moving forward with anything. I had someone contact me through Indeed and say I was going to be a personal assistant to this real estate guru. Then they said they were going to send me a check and asked me to cash it. That is a flag on the play, it is a shame we can't just look for work without having to worry about being scammed. Go with your gut, you know when it doesn't feel right or something seems off, then definitely don't move forward. Also, when you get the name of the company you can double check with them to make sure they are hiring for the position. Sorry, this happened to you! more

  • I understand that many are looking for jobs. But if you have knowledge or none. But have the will to learn and have the ability to recruit dm me.

  • Ann, not every job interview conducted through teams, or zoom, or any other messaging system is a scam; but some are. To protect yourself, you have... to figure out an independent means of verifying the integrity of the people you are dealing with. That's hard to do.
However, your bank keeps records of who writes bad checks - bad checks are time-consuming and distressing. So if your bank refuses to accept your employer's check, then you probably have dodged a bullet.

What you could do is ask at the bank if there is a more senior manager who can help you. A lot of the senior people have been around for a while and they have networks of trustworthy people who can help you.

  • It happened to me where my bank was closed because of fraudulent check

  • Check is no legit bu cheque

  • You're suppose to be given a cheque because the check they give you has nothing to do with money

  • The remote company I worked for never sent a check; they had me pick out a laptop and send them the info so their assistant could order it and have it... shipped to me. My sister's company did the same thing... they even already had one picked out and sent it to her along with some tech gear. That's something to stay cautious about. Sorry you had to deal with that though.  more

  • Absolutely not. The check will overdraft and cause all kinds of problems. It's not legit.

  • I’m sorry

  • If your gut says it’s not right, go with that.

    2
  • When you try to cash the check, THAY get a copy of your routing number and account number. This is the information they need to pull money out.

  • Is the check legit??
