Every Christmas, our office does Secret Santa. This year, I got a bouquet of little roses… but the red ones were made out of lingerie. I’m honestly shocked. Is this some kind of joke from my coworkers or are they trying to send me a message? I’m not sure how to feel about it. And I still have no idea who gave it to me. What should I do?

I believe gifts like lingerie are intended for couples and are inappropriate in a workplace setting.

  • Your feelings are valid. Just do not participate in the gift giving next year.

  • Well first of all, evaluate yourself social-wise, flash back a bit and recall if there was someone you tried to approach or approached you 'matters... love', how did you act?...its possible someone is falling in love with you, if you are married make it known to your workmates, if not and ready to mingle, welcome the idea and accept the gift! more

This is absolutely inappropriate and the women here who are telling you that you’re making too much of it are enabling rape culture and abuse in the... workplace. You need to take this to your superiors and HR immediately. more

  • Act like someone has really creative ideas, and that you appreciate this person. Coming off any other way will make you a pariah around the office.... Especially if that person was not being suggestive. more

  • A gift is always from a loving heart, accept it,, it's Christmas 🎁

  • Before jumping to conclusions, are you SURE they were made out of lingerie? After all, you said they were little roses, which means they are simply... small pieces of fabric. Lingerie and sheer/and or flowery-type fabrics look the same. It doesn't automatically mean your roses were made OUT of lingerie. It could simply be a fabric that looks like it could be lingerie. It's possible the giver would be equally shocked to realize you concluded they gave you 'lingerie' as a gift. more

  • You are entitled to your feelings. If you are feeling uncomfortable, I think there should be rules for your work’s Secret Santa and HR needs to be... told.  more

  • We all know that HR doesn't really work for the employees.... I would definitely take the advice from Camille here!

  • Talk to HR especially if you are feeling uncomfortable.

  • If you're not looking to escalate things, talk to the person who organized the Secret Santa and possibly have them reach out to the giver to find out... the intent. It could be that the giver didn't know what the bouquet was made of and it would be an honest mistake in that case.  more

  • Laugh it off, make a joke that "the lingerie is cheap "and secretly hope it's from Victoria Secret and Merry Christmas. It's Christmas !

  • Look at the culture of your office team. Ask yourself why are you feeling whatever you're feeling about the gift. It very well could be someone... thought it was different and cute. Why does it have to be anything else.  more
