I got a job offer from a company that fired my best friend last year. The salary is almost double what I make now. My friend says taking it would be a betrayal. Am I being selfish?
  • She didn't tell you the whole truth again why is she being ubsurd. It's quiet obviously she the one who is selfish.

  • Your life doesnt revolve around your friend. is he/she going to pay your bills.

  • Why was he/she fired? Does your friend pay your bills? Is he/she offering you an alternative? Separate your job from friendship.

  • You taking a job at the company that fired your friend has NOTHING to do with you. Your friend (and I question how good a friend they are when they... selfishly tell you what you should do in this case) should tell you why they were fired. You have every right to pursue any job you want, without interferrence. more

  • You are who you are and not your friend. If your spirit tells you to take the Job do not hesitate go for it.

  • It seems to me your friend would tell you what to look out for. But more important than that either you’re going to be friends who support each other... or not. Which is it??? more

  • I wrote a book that speaks to relationships with "friends" . There are types of friendships and each has its purpose.
Could it be for this purpose... was he/she came to your life?
If your friend cannot be genuinely happy for your success and promotions, then the foundation of that friendship is faulty already.
Cos he/she couldn't get it doesn't mean another person can't or shouldn't even if he/she knows the person.
So if it was his brother/sister, would he/she still see it as a betrayal?

It is pathetic that we humans usually want the best for ourselves and the second for others. Self-centeredness is a cancer that breeds jealousy, bitterness and envy. Run from it.

  • Its a job

  • "Betrayal" is a bit overboard. Understand this... "The enemy of my friend... is not always my enemy."
Just because things didn't work out well for... your friend doesn't mean it will be the same for the next person.
I think your friend should be more candid in what the real pros and cons are with working for that company.
That way you are better informed on how to either align yourself or save yourself from possible drama ahead.
