I just got back from a job interview and have mixed feelings. They kept trying to confuse me and make me feel bad. At the start, they asked me to tell them about myself. I began talking about my duties at my last job, but they said they didn’t want memorized answers, they wanted real achievements.
Then they asked if I had taken a certain test. I said no (I’d never even heard of it) and they told me that meant I failed it and got the lowest score. At the end the HR person said they had wasted their time talking to me and that their time is valuable.
Is this how interviews are done now to test how well people handle stress?

    Believe it or not, that was a gift. It showed you their red flags and gave you some notes to prep for other interviews. If they call to say you... performed well and they want to hire you...up to you, but expect gaslighting and toxicity if you take it.
    Interviews are BRUTAL - give yourself kudos for getting through it, then learn from each experience and move forward. ❤️❤️❤️

  • Sorry that you had to experience that it is more revealing of their culture and character, and I’d say you dodged a toxic work environment. Why... employers think now of all the times in history is a good time to engage In psychological warfare is beyond me. Unless you’re literally performing open heart surgery in an ER—it’s not that serious. Dust yourself off and don’t allow someone who likely peaked in high school to deter you.  more

  • As an HR professional myself, I have issues with your explanation of how this interview went. From what you have written and what I have interpreted,... you missed the point of the interview. As a professional, you should leave your feelings with your feelings and lean on facts as well as sharing those facts with a business mindset.
    They did not try to confuse you as you were already confused. By what, I do not know. Maybe attempting to figure out your interviewer instead of focusing on what is being asked of you. Don't worry, many do the same which if not realized quickly, can cause undue anxiety because the process of the interviewer's questioning does not match the visuals you have already, without reason, placed in your minds eye. Now you're stuck in that cycle of confusion. 
    You are not the first candidate to their rodeo, so the interviewer went through the motions, by the numbers and determined the result. My advice to you is learn from it and move forward. Finding work is a full time job in itself, but launching a career is life absorbing. When you fall, fall forward, get up and move out! leave the tears on the ground behind you.

  • While not excusing their behaviour, they could have been more explicit about the expected answers. In future presentations, you could approach the... same question - from a measured performance angle e.g. In undertaking activities /actions - xyz, I managed to increase efficiency in the systems/reduced delivery time/increased client base/ etc etc by this %. Go on to provide proof ---The evidence is captured in my employee of the month/ annual review report/recommendation letter etc etc.  more

  • Dont stress so much. When asked about yourself in the next interview. Talk about your qualifications, expertise in your specialist, the experience in... that field, your achievements or contributions. Add on how your expertise and experience will add value to new role/position which you are looking for, how you would cooperate with other workers in order to achieve the targets, objectives for the company etc. more

  • NO that is absolutely not how interviews are meant to be conducted. However, take that experience as data about the kind of company and types of... people you don't want to work for or with. An interview is supposed to be a two-way conversation, primarily to determine culture fit. Typically, by the time you make it to the interview stage, the hiring manager has already determined that you have the knowledge and skills they need for the position being filled. So the interview is less about capacity and more about culture fit. This means that, as much as they are trying to determine a culture for you, you should be doing the same thing. You need to decide if these are the kinds of people I can work with. Believe me, that's exactly what they are doing. So don't let them off the hook in an interview. Interviews are not interrogations, and if you feel like you're being interrogated, you can stop the interview and exercise your right not to be interrogated, or provide that feedback later. more

  • That was ok you needed to manage stress under difficult conditions and how to stand your ground when working with professionals or diffucult boss. You... needed to know how policies work and how you manage your work plsns and deveop results. Talk about work and results more

    Sorry I'm just an old man with old ideas - you went and things did not feel right inside. A++ Not getting employed maybe the best outcome for you... even though you feel bad. Perhaps asking questions is better than answering them. Due some research on the business in general Market and see how your prospective employer operates in that space. When you feel uncomfortable say so - in a softening question - "I don't know why I am feeling that this position is already filled? Wait for an answer.  more
