So at my job I work with two dudes named Calvin. Neither one of them want me to call them by a different name. I've discussed creating a nickname for them and they have defied me every step of the way making this a hostile work environment. It's getting annoying because every time I yell out Calvin I've then got to say the color of the shirt they're wearing and that's even difficult when they're wearing the same colored shirt. Should I just quit and work somewhere else or just deal with having to differentiate them on a daily? I know it's definitely making me take psychiatric medicine more frequently.

    Use their last names.

  • Send me a text I have some informations to share with you regarding having side jobs online in working with us thanks...

  • Reminds me of that Newhart show where he has three neighbors who are brothers and each named Daryl

  • Blake this is an easy fix. If you are not their supervisor, I wouldn’t stress with engaging with them that deeply. You can always call them by their... last name, or first and last. It sounds like they are trying to annoy you and you are allowing them. We can’t control others, only ourselves! more

  • The most polite thing would be to call them Calvin and include the first initial of their last name. Then you aren’t renaming them.

  • Thanks... bro.

  • Are you being for real? You’re not really that entitled are you?

  • Sounds like you may need to evaluate why you are there if it’s that stressing you you. Sounds really minor compared to doing your job. Is it necessary... to yell their name instead of talk to them? Finally, last name or last initial works fine too.  more

  • This is unhinged af. Just do your job, like what? No need to force people into accepting nicknames. It’s their problem to deal with

  • You get to call them whatever you want

  • If two names are causing you to take more psych medicine, there are bigger issues here than the two names. I suggest that you may want to take a look... at how little respect you have for the people you are working with. Are two names really worth quitting your job? It sounds like getting your way is more important than creating a work environment where the job gets done and people are respected in the process. There are many good suggestions above for how to solve this problem simply. The question I would ask myself is why am I committed to a position that is bad for me, bad for the workplace and disrespectful of my colleagues. more

  • Use the first letter of their last name at the end of their name Calvin and Calvin B as an example

  • Better answer call them by their last name. When you work security nobody knows you by your first name unless you tell them

    4
  • Call the shorter one CAL and the taller one CALVI and stick it. That should cut them to size and save you a trip to the psychiatrist.

  • Use their last names. I don’t ask. If people have same first name I call their last name. If they don’t like it, it’s their problem. You could opt... using mr and Mrs too.  more

  • Definitely would have gave them nicknames

  • Simple, call them Calvin One and Calvin Alpha

  • Ask them how each of them want to be addressed

    3
  • If their last names are different call them Calvin C and Calvin D using a last initial. I'd be ticked if someone called me a random name. I hate my... nick name that I had growing up and when people try to shorten my name to things like Nette I ignore them. more

  • Why don't you just address them by their last name.

  • Don’t get so bent over a name. Just call their names and keep moving . This is a minor issue that you have made a problem. I would want my name... called properly also!
Be happy you have a job! You can do it !
