About the job 
The ICRC International Humanitarian Law Unit seeks a competent Legal Translation Specialist to join our team in Kyiv. The Legal Translation Specialist ensures high-quality and accurate communication by providing legal translation, proofreading, and editing services between Ukrainian and English. This role supports the ICRC’s legal and operational work by enabling clear, consistent, and contextually appropriate use of language across publications, legal documents and communications.
Start date: Immediately 

Your Tasks and Responsibilities
- Translate legal and operational documents between Ukrainian and English
- Proofread and edit texts related to international humanitarian law (IHL) and ICRC activities 
- Provide interpretation support during external meetings, workshops, and conferences
- Advise colleagues on linguistic and terminology-related matters
- Maintain and contribute to updates of internal linguistic terminology tools
- Monitor IHL publications available in Ukrainian and support planning for future materials to be produced
- Coordinate with external translators to manage high-volume workloads
- Ensure quality and consistency of terminology, around IHL, in public and internal communication
- Support the IHL Unit in achieving delegation objectives through high-quality language services

About you
To be successful as Legal Translation Specialist in the International Humanitarian Law Unit, you should possess the following qualifications and experiences and have the following characteristics:  
- Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence permit in Ukraine
- University degree in translation, linguistics, or related field from a recognized academic institution, or equivalent professional language qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional experience in translation or editing, preferably within an international organization
- Experience in editing is an asset
- Native-level proficiency in Ukrainian, with excellent writing skills
- Advanced proficiency in English; knowledge of French is an asset; knowledge of Russian is an asset
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in CAT tools (particularly Trados) and terminology management tools
- Familiarity with international law or related fields is desirable
- Self-motivated with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles
- Flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
- Ability to work independently, as well as effectively under supervision
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work within a diverse team and establish and maintain good working relations in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-disciplinary environment
