Key responsibilities:


Database administration / management of both formal and informal databases (development, performance, integrity, and security);
Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of strategies to improve the data management in the Coastal Engineering and Ports Infrastructure group;
Establish, build, manage and maintain mutually beneficial and credible stakeholder relationships;
Manage a small team;
Prepare reports, guidelines or other documents aimed at disseminating the results and outcomes of projects;
Continuously monitor industry trends to ensure that the research group remains at the forefront of innovation, competitiveness, dynamism in relation to data and products;
Ensure the quality and delivery of projects in the group by means of technical reviews and quality assurance.


Qualifications, skills and experience:


An honours degree in Computer Science or any IT related fields with specialisation in databases, certified database administration, with at least five years’ experience in database administration;


Must be:


Able to function independently and as part of a team;
Able to perform under pressure and manage or contribute to projects within allocated time and budget constraints;
Self-motivated with excellent communication skills;
Proficient in MS Windows and uBuntu;


Must have the following skills:


Problem solving and come up with innovative solutions;
Attention to detail and quality;
Programming skills in Matlab, Python, Java and PHP;
Expert proficiency in Microsoft EXCEL;


Experience with:


Apache, Tomcat, Java and html websites;
Webpage development and maintenance;
A valid driver’s licence with own transport.
