Hi all! I’ve only been working for 4 months and I really tried to do my best and take on as much as I could. But my department head kept giving me more and more work. He praised me a lot but didn’t raise my pay.
At first, I felt proud because I thought they valued me. But now I think maybe it’s better to be like my coworkers - not overdo or stress out too much. Otherwise, I might burn out and that’s not good for my health.
How about you? Do you work calmly?

  • Congratulations on having a place of employment and in being recognized by been given more responsibilities. Unfortunately at times the employee that... works best is rewarded with more work. My suggestions are 1- keep track of everything you do, 2- learn as much as you can, 3- be the best you can be, 4- update your resume, 6- if possible stay with that company for at least a year, 7- whenever you are ready start looking for another job with better pay and possibly a promotion, remember all the skills you are learning will come in handy. Best of luck!

  • I was able to get a raise after 5 months at a company I worked for. I wrote up exactly every time I went above my job description. I kept a detailed... journal of my days which was priceless when asking for the raise. I had six pages typed and printed to hand in with my request and I included my job discription.  more

  • I would not expect a raise after only 4 months of employment. When I worked in an office, we were given time management training, designed to reduce... and/or prevent stress. take your time to complete the "easier" assignments first then work on the more difficult ones more

  • If it is too much you need to speak to department head. You can put yourself into poor health stressing over a job. You want to always do the best... job you can do but not to the point of making yourself sick. more

  • Never expect an employer to offer you a raise; you need to ask for one. You are your best advocate. You can approach the subject by asking for... feedback on your performance and get clarity on their expectations. I've increased pay when responsibilities have changed soon after hire because they've shown they're capable of more. more

  • After recently retiring from the military I realized how stress free life can be. These days I stress a lot less and I'm much happier. Work at the... pace where life is still enjoyable. Do the things that you like. If a job stresses you out to the point that you don't enjoy it then it's not the job you were meant to perform.  more
