The Technical Implementation Lead will lead the strategic and technical implementation of Projects with an initial key focus on the current project Gates funded project, for distribution of CPAP and Pointof-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), across sub-Saharan Africa. They will work closely with the Clinical and
Training Teams to ensure that lifesaving medical devices are effectively integrated into national systems and aligned with the Ministry of Health (MOH) priorities and the Gates Foundation goals.
The Technical Implementation Lead will provide strategic direction, oversee program design and execution, and work with ministries, implementing partners, and country teams to ensure successful deployment, capacity building, and long-term sustainability of health technologies.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight
Lead the strategic planning and execution of maternal and neonatal health technology implementation across Hatch-supported countries.
Design, adapt, and oversee the technical workstream of programs, ensuring alignment with global best practices, local needs, and donor goals.
Work closely with senior leadership to inform country strategies, program models, and scaleup pathways for maternal and neonatal technologies.
Supervise and support the technical teams in implementation and facilitate strong coordination between them and the clinical, training, and MEL teams.
Technical Implementation & Systems Integration
Lead the full lifecycle of device implementation, from user needs assessments to, installation, calibration, and post-installation support.
Conduct or oversee health facility readiness assessments, including electrical, oxygen, infection prevention, and staffing requirements.
Establish and maintain preventive maintenance protocols and support distributors in building sustainable biomedical engineering capacity to support Hatch Technologies.
Identify and resolve device-related challenges by offering remote and on-site troubleshooting, coordinating with manufacturers where necessary.
Delivering Lifesaving Solutions for Newborns
Ensure quality assurance processes are in place for installation, ongoing use, and reporting of equipment-related issues.
Training & Capacity Building
Design and implement comprehensive training programs for biomedical users of CPAP and POCUS devices, including hands-on sessions, digital modules, and job aids.
Support the integration of CPAP and POCUS technical training into pre-service and in-service national curricula and ensure alignment with WHO standards and MOH protocols in all countries.
Build a pool of regional technical ToTs in all countries, providing ongoing mentorship and refresher training to promote self-sustaining capacity.
Lead the co-development of standard operating procedures, user guides, troubleshooting
checklists, and safety protocols for all implemented technologies.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Development
Build and sustain strategic relationships with Ministries of Health, global health institutions, donors, and country-level stakeholders to align implementation with national priorities.
Engage with professional associations (e.g., biomedical engineering societies) to promote local ownership and long-term sustainability.
Represent Hatch Technologies at national and global technical working groups, donor
meetings, innovation labs, and relevant global health conferences.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
Work with MEL teams to ensure technical indicators and learning questions are embedded in
program monitoring frameworks.
Lead or contribute to field data collection efforts on device usage, , and system-level barriers to inform real-time decision-making.
Support documentation of implementation learnings, case studies, and technical briefs to contribute to global knowledge and donor reporting.
Promote adaptive learning cycles, incorporating data insights into training updates, SOP revisions, and implementation refinements.
