My boss asked me to recommend someone for a job, and I recommended a former colleague who I knew was looking. I didn't tell my boss that this colleague had been fired from their previous company. Was that dishonest?

  • It is not your place to provide the background. If you are not certain of the recommendation then do not make one.

  • There is nothing wrong in your recommendation...As a HR manager, my policy was to recruit thieves or persons who lost jobs out of deviant... behaviours...was driven by belief that they required a new lease in life and were indeed willing to change...similarly don't trust organisational decisions on dismissing employees especially on administrative justice...my work proved to be easy because would observing them from a point of fore character knowledge without expecting surprises...surprisingly they all performed excellently with one rising to a position of a director in the same company and two others made to directorship in different companies more

  • I don't think it is dishonest. It is the employer's responsibility to check into such matters.

  • AND I'm so sorry about your colleague and I think it's your fault in the first place you should not recommend your colleague for the job you already... know he or her been fired and I don't blame your colleague but I blame you because you are not honest to your Boss and you make your colleague fill bad. more

  • Your colleague needs to fill an application for the job and needs reference where he or her worked and also where your colleague fired from work and... it needs to be honest your boss will call to find out his reference and I believe your boss will call your colleague and come in and discuss what he find out he probably won't hire your colleague your boss find out he or he been fired  more

  • You should be honest to you your boss sorry you don't have any one to recommend in that job but you already know your colleague been fired from his or... her job  more

  • Yes it's true

  • Pretty good 👍😊

  • It is not your position to do so. Your former colleague has the responsibility to win the interview and explain their former job experience and why... they were let go. But you should be prepared with a response if the hiring manager comes back to you asking why you recommended someone who was let go from their last position.  more

  • Giving a colleague a second chance is both commendable and humane. However, if the issues that led to his removal could affect his performance in this... new role, then true support should include honest counsel and guidance toward positive change. After all, we are meant to support one another not only through opportunities but also through accountability. more

  • I honestly don't think you're wrong.

  • I would say it was not necessarily dishonest, but I should have been more transparent. I recommended my former colleague because I believed they had... the skills and experience needed for the job. However, if I knew their previous termination was relevant to the hiring decision, I should have disclosed that fact rather than leaving my boss with an incomplete picture. more

  • You did good giving them a fresh start

  • You did well

  • You re right

  • No, it wasn't dishonest. You were asked for a recommendation. If you know that reasoning for the firing was going to jeopardize the position, then... you wouldn't have given the recommendation.  more

  • Stating the reason of his fired

  • Unless you know that the previous employer sacked the said friend for wrong doing which you are aware of, there is nothing wrong recommending the... friend more

  • I don't think it is dishonesty, why because your boss only asked for recommendations and not information of the recommended person which you did. It... then the duty of the HR department to conduct the background finding of the recommended person and other information needed. And during the interview they may asked him of the reason why he left his previous employment to measure his honesty at that stage.

    My opinion though
