Job Summary:

The Pharmacy technician is responsible for helping the Hospital Pharmacist to prepareanddispense medications to patients undergoing treatment in the Hospital.
They also helpthePharmacist ensure the Branch Pharmacy has the right amount of inventory to meet patient needs and undertake other tasks under the supervision of the Hospital Pharmacist toprovide excellent customer service... and ensure the Hospital’s Pharmacy runs smoothly.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical:

Accepting written prescriptions or refill requests from patients; reviewing prescriptioninformation for completeness and accuracy.
Complete patients’ paperwork related to the filling of prescription when required.
Assemble/prepare, label and dispense medications to patients, using the correct dosages, formulation & materials for each individual patient.
Obtain Pharmacist’s approval on each patients’ prescription before final dispensingof medications to patients.
Answer basic patient questions how to use their medicines safely when they return home or tothe Ward. Explain how to reduce medication side effects. Listen to all patients’ concerns; escalating such concerns to the Branch Pharmacist or the Head, Pharmacy Services whennecessary.
Take assigned Call Duty as per Hospital/Department guidelines.

Clerical

Clean and sterilize surfaces & equipment and prepare the Pharmacy for opening or beforeeach new shift.
Ensure the Hospital Pharmacy is tidy and properly arranged to make the identificationof products faster & easier and medicines are stored appropriately and securely.
Complete and/or update relevant patient documentation in their File and/or electronic Patient Information (PIS) system.
Rotate stock, remove expired medications and carry out other Pharmacy inventory control duties.
Assist the Hospital Pharmacist (or in their absence) to conduct re-ordering, receiving, stocking and labelling medications & related products; monitoring the condition &quantityof such items to prevent stock-out, overstocking, deterioration or expiration. 
Assist the Hospital Pharmacist with processing insurance (HMO) claims as needed.
Prepare & submit accurate reports on medication/consumables use during a givenperiod(weekly, monthly etc.).
Attend and participate in various Unit, Facility or Department meetings as required.
Cooperate with the Hospital Pharmacist and/or Hospital Management to support the smoothrunning of general Hospital Operations in one’s assigned Facility more

Clinical Services:
Provide Primary Care Services as follows:

Examine patients for illness or injury; provide urgent/emergency medical services (including resuscitation, stabilization and assessment and diagnosis, treatment, and referral as necessary).
Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results. Document treatments on digital charting software, adhering to CarePoint Hospital’s medical charting standards, including ongoing progress notes and test results.
Assess the urgency and severity of presenting problems through history-taking, examination, and investigation. respond to patients' medical/health problems by referring to their history.
Carry out investigation and diagnosis, plan and provide treatment to patients in the form of medicines and other therapies, referring them to specialist providers as necessary or appropriate.
Recommend and, where appropriate, conduct appropriate patient treatment or intervention procedures or options, including but not limited to prescribing, minor surgery and other general practice procedures, counselling, psychological interventions, advising and education.
Refer or order laboratory tests, radiological and/or other diagnostic investigations, interpreting such results as required.
Discuss and analyze any possible side effects of prescribed medications with patients and/or their family members or caregivers.
Provide ongoing care and support for people with chronic and terminal conditions to reduce deterioration, increase independence and reduce suffering, referring, where relevant, to appropriate service providers.

This role is responsible for examining patient’s eyes to diagnose vision problems and eye diseases and test patients’ visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes.

Perform eye examinations for new and established pediatric or adult patients as well as follow-up exam for established medical patients in the ophthalmology practice.

Prescribe and supply contact lenses and other visual aid.
Prescribe ophthalmic medication to treat eye diseases or infections within the scope of practice.

The Person

Minimum academic qualification of Doctor of Optometry (OD)
3 to 5 years relevant work experience preferably in the Health sector.
Membership of a relevant professional body such as Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) or Optometry and Dispensing Optician Board of Nigeria (O.D.O.B.N).
Knowledge of the Microsoft office package.
