Required Qualifications.

Assists the Director P&C Africa with the provision of specialist People & Culture Management support to Country Directors, Transboundary landscapes leaders and leadership, support, and coordination to the P&C teams across all Africa Country offices.

Required Qualifications:

JOB SUMMARY:
The Bankable Project Officer will be responsible for the implementation of the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD) project. Specifically, the role will be responsible for the identification of bankable nature positive businesses in areas such as climate-smart agriculture, sustainable water management, food security and ecosystem restoration solutions and propose them for... consideration for funding under the DFCD project. Through this process, the Bankable Officer will promote private sector investment in green businesses.
By identifying the right type of businesses and linking them to funding opportunities, the role of the Bankable Officer will create a direct positive impact on nature conservation. Beyond DFCD project, the role will also support the landscapes in linking the nature positive businesses to other funding opportunities locally and regionally, for example, in partnership with financial institutions and the Sustainable Investment and Business Development team at WWF-Kenya
The role will report to Biodiversity, Science and Innovation Manager and will closely coordinate with the DFCD team in WWF NL.

Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development require sound land use planning. To drive conservation impact at scale and to respond effectively to emerging opportunities and challenges brought about by a rapidly growing economy and evolving governance regime in Kenya, WWF Kenya is recruiting a GIS and Land Use Planning Coordinator. The incumbent, working across... WWF-Kenya Priority Landscapes and with relevant partners nationally, will ensure that land use plans backed by sound GIS modelling become a key decision support tool in securing official recognition for, and safeguarding natural resources and processes (e.g. Soils, watersheds, forests, agricultural land, key areas for wildlife).
Proper land use planning and scientifically underpinned GIS modelling will ensure that all development projects have sound environmental safeguards and they are all assessed proactively at the project design phase to ensure nature conservation and sustainable development is achieved simultaneously.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position shall supervise the role of Land Use Planning Officer.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the supervision of all the land use planning work in WWF-Kenya’s priority landscapes and in other conservation areas nationally to achieve the desired conservation impact as per the WWF-Kenya Strategic Plan 2020-2030 and, in line with all the other relevant legislative frameworks governing various environmental sectors in Kenya.
Proactive scanning of and engagement with proposed, planned and/or on-going major infrastructure developments at the continental, regional, national and county level that has a potential to significantly affect nature conservation to undertake spatial analysis for sound decision-making and interventions.
Liaise with all the key actors (internal and external) responsible for land‐use planning in conservation areas nationally to ensure coherent, harmonized efforts and ownership and obviate against resource wastage;
Responsible for the optimal use and functioning of WWF-Kenya’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) platform
Responsible for the design of various mobile data collection tools and protocols and models for spatial, trend analysis and dashboards for decision making.
Lead operations of the Africa-GIS Hub to include geodatabase management and collaborations, applications development, capacity development of staff and partners on behalf of Network Geospatial Community of Practice (COMPASS);
Proactively reach out to WWF offices in Africa and other partners to assess and determine the type of decision support tools required to inform such developments;
Develop advocacy tools on the merits of scientifically based land use planning and GIS modelling to encourage the uptake of more efficient and effective systems by key players at all levels of government;
Assess and clearly define WWF-Kenya’s role and lead in technical guidance in the development of land use planning at the ecosystem, county and national levels;
Identify best practices and international case studies on GIS models and land use plans to be used as benchmarks in WWF-Kenya’s land use planning at all levels.
Jointly with Conservation Programmes and Operations teams, undertake resource mobilization/fundraising to support Land Use Planning programmes/projects
Support planning and performance department to develop appropriate tools and systems to enhance effective organizational performance
Responsible for the development and optimal use of the Knowledge and Information Management Hub which includes but is not limited to information management strategy, data collation platform development, staff capacity building and development of information-sharing protocols
Undertake other relevant duties as assigned by the line manager that contribute to overall nature conservation work and aligned to WWF-Kenya Strategic Plan.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:         

A Master degree or an advanced degree in Computing, Analytics, Statistics, Climatology or Geospatial Sciences, Information Technology or a related field.                   
Seven (7) years’ experience in GIS modelling, scenario planning, statistics, and probability, three of which must be scenario Modelling in relevant nature conservation projects/programmes.                        
Proven experience with GIS software, creating and managing geodatabases, undertaking analysis and producing maps and other infographics.                     
At least 3 years of hands-on experience on the management of distributed or relational geodatabases such as PostgreSQL, PostGIS, SQL Server, and enterprise geospatial databases engine (ArcSDE), data modelling, and experience with related tools.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Proficiency in programming using Google Earth Engine (GEE), R or python;
Experience with data visualization and creativity in summarizing complex datasets to communicate key messages to non-expert audiences. Knowledge of Tableau and/or Power BI is a plus;
Proven statistical, analytical and technical skills, with the ability to logically present information in charts, maps, tables and graphs.

Profile Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in wildlife conservation, natural resource management or a related field (A Master’s degree will be an added advantage).
A minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in wildlife conservation in Kenya with an international non-governmental organization or relevant government agency. 
At least 3 years’ demonstrated experience in project development, management (technical and financial), monitoring and reporting (technical and financial) time-bound projects.
Experience in coordination and working with multiple partners (public, private and community), particularly in an NGO environment.
Strong project management, organizational, and financial management skills.

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Amboseli-Chyulu Sub Landscape Coordinator, the incumbent will coordinate  civil society advocacy, undertake policy development, providing analysis, advice, and provide support towards the delivery of the WWF projects under the Building Connectivity, Functionality & Impact Across the Southern Kenya Landscape (SOK), that include:... BMZ II, Support to Conservancies, Restoration interventions (FLR), Reducing Illegal Wildlife crime (IWT),  and others related to ecological connectivity within the SoK, with emphasis in Amboseli-Chyullu Sub landscape, by supporting the Policy & Advocacy component as well as the CSOs engagement. The incumbent will work closely with the Project leads in the sub landscape and support overall CSOs engagement work within Southern Kenya Landscape, 

 

Major function
To co-lead the implementation/ management Policy & Advocacy programme component including CSOs advocacy and engagement as well as partnership building towards creation of an enabling environment for the delivery of high impact conservation results within the sub Landscape, and the SoK Landscape as a whole.  
Core Roles and responsibilities:

Lead the Policy and Advocacy components of all the Projects within the sub landscape and SoK Landscape as required 
Facilitate policy research and analysis, reviewing alternatives in relation to policy deliverables, to contribute to the policy process and to inform decision making at the SOK landscape level 
Liaise and maintain regular contact with County government officials, politicians and policy makers on key policy issues within the SOK landscape 
Manage the regular engagements with the local CSOs, Community and partners involved in the Projects, which include effective coordination and cooperation between project partners;

Review and collect essential baseline data, the co-creation of appropriate implementation approaches and the establishment of related monitoring systems.


Work with WWF and Consortium partners at the County level to develop and/or adjust follow up workplans and budgets;
Ensure the strong participation and benefitting of women and youth as well as people with disability in all project activities 
Support the mapping, Capacity assessment and organizational development plans of CSOs working on NRM, and related sectors in SoK landscape 
Advice, guide and facilitate training needs for the SoK landscape CSOs in line with the capacity building plans
Oversee the implementation of activities supporting Amboseli-Chyulu sub landscape CSOs advocacy, alliance building, collaboration and networking 
Facilitate, where appropriate the development of joint actions and initiatives emerging from County Level CSO collaboration and network 
Oversee the overall delivery of the CSO engagement advocacy and or project activities within the SoK Landscape and ensure contractual compliance

Ensure, at the SoK Landscape, the confirmation and documentation of free, prior and informed consent of the target groups, the implementation and monitoring of safeguards according to WWF’s ESS Framework, the mitigation of identified risks and the establishment of a grievance mechanism in close cooperation with the respective WWF-Kenya focal persons 
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager

Ensures that project budgets are in conformance with organisational and donor requirements/formats and that these are timely prepared for necessary reviews/checks prior to submission 
Undertakes rigorous budget management and monitoring over the period of project implementation by ensuring proper tracking of expenditures against approved budgets.
Ensures that all project cost expenditures are supported by adequate documentation in line with statutory, organisational and donor requirements. 
Maintains safe custody of project related expenditure – receipts, vouchers, contracts and all project records in a neatly filed and easily retrievable manner.

Ensures timely and accurate preparation and submission of financial reports related to programmes/projects to donor based on the contractual expectations;
Manages any specific donor reporting requirements such as match-funding/co-financing in order to meet the donor expectations without adverse effect to the organisation
Prepares and maintains updated ledgers and inventories of supplies and non-expendable property for programmes;
Manages the close-out process for projects ensuring that all financial records are up-to-date upon project completion;

Closely monitors the performance of sub-grantees and provides training as and when required

Compiles and verifies requests for direct payment and/or advance relating to programme activities;

Programmes Development and Implementation

Coordinates... the implementation of the project and activities in line with work plans/ action plans;
Provides technical support in project planning, monitoring and evaluation;
Works with relevant key stakeholders and partners, including government agencies, community based conservation organizations/groups, the private sector to promote sustainable development, utilization, management and conservation of natural resources within the project area;
Leads in the assessments and reporting of progress, outcomes and impacts against project implementation and workplans/action plans including quality assurance and conservation innovations;
Offers effective supervision including mentoring and performance management of staff under the project;
Ensures compliance of programme development and implementation with WWF Kenya Strategic Plan 2020-2030, WWF Network Standards and government policies as appropriate;
Prepares and presents periodic technical reports on the progress of implementation of project activities including timely donor reporting in the designated area;

 Have education background and experience in forest resource management, forestry extension or farm forestry in Kenya;
